Hi all! i have the bad luck to own an aspire 1692 laptop.
My problem started 2 days ago. While i was working, the right part of the screen turned to vertical lines of colors! these lines cover about 20% of the screen so it makes it difficult to use. i tune hardware of desktop pcs so i know some stuff, when i push the top part of the laptop's screen it starts shaking (the lines) and turns to normal for some milisecs. I have the laptop for about 2 months and i have the warranty, but i have alot of stuff for my college right now so i can't affort to miss it. any idias????

Sounds like you have a hardware problem on your hands - you're going to have to send that in. Give Acer tech support a call, and tell them what happened. Let us know how you make out.

I had the same problem 1 month after I got it ,and I went to the support in Egypt , and they replaced it with a new hardware and kept the same old hardisk,
but the surprise is that after 4 months the new machine start to develop the same defect, now I am not in Egypt what can I do to repaire it , please let me know about what you did with your problem, and where you bought your machine. -
oh god! I got exactly the same problem by now! The vertical line will got partially disappear if I press the upper right corner of the notebook body (not the screen). If I turn on the notebook and run in cold air-condition room it will live longer (with vertical line of course). If I run it in room temperature it is simple die right after the WinXP loaded (or somewhen before). Any experience on this case that someone can share with me???
Very urgent. Thanks!
