I think that GPU volts are selected dynamically, though I thing that if you lower 2d clocks that will reduce T.

Vorob, you are right, but in fact, the GPU voltage values and frequencies for different performance levels (2D, balanced 3D and full 3D) stored in the VideoBIOS and these values are editable through the Nibitor. For every performance level videodriver selects different values of frequencies and voltages from the VideoBIOS dynamically.

You better stop touching volt modding part for mobile cards

I know it will reduce your temp:but 2D clocks never produce hi heat

    Hi.

I am going to order an 5920 T7300 with an 8600M GT, and a 160GB HDD.
    from littlewoods direct.

but it says it comes with 1024mb memory and a 6cell battery is this possible.

The acer website only shows 2048mb with an 8cell battery with the above componets.

can anybody shed some light on this.

    thanks

    John.

Since there are almost myriads of configurations of this particular computer, I would say yes. Do you know exact model number? Than we could compare/find exact confuguration.

    Hi.

    this is the website

and this is the acer list of 5920 configurations

do acer make laptops to a retailers specifications, I have a 10% discount, if it has only 1024mb will it be 1x1024 or 2x512.

    thanks

    John.

Imho this info is full of crap (littlewoodsdirect page), because they don't tell exactly which model is that:

    - they mix info about graphic cards (integrated - 128 Mb shared memory) and nvidia one with 256 Mb own memory ... which one is now?
    - nvidia GF 8600 ... yes, but is it GT or GS? Some models have also 8400 GS :)
    - models are with 4695 wireles (a/g/n -- that's draft N) and with 3945 a/b/g) ... which one has that model?
    - turbomemory? yes ... some models

Check your second link, expand computers and you'll see differences + exact model numbers.

Keep in mind these are UK versions, you can get different configs in other country's.

    Hi.

I know, I have asked littlewoods for the laptop model number, but they dont have it, but it must be an 5920 by the picture and the specifications, of what their is.

since it will be a uk model, I have looked throught the acer 5920 configurations, and they are all 8600m GT.

I just hope it comes with 2048mb memory and a 8cell battery.

Oh, bye the way, does the 5920 give detailed information on processor tems, votages and fan speeds.

My current laptop only showed the processor temp and hdd, everything else is black and i tried every utility known to man.

    thanks

    John.

Look, you didn't check second link:

Aspire 5920-*Mi --> most models with "Mi" in name have Mobile Intel® GM965 Express chipset with integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100, 3945ABG, 6 cell Li-ion Battery; I belive there is typo/duplicate with "Aspire 5920-302G16Mi", one is LX.AKV0X.035 and other LX.AN60X.002

    --> integrated graphics = 6-cell battery, nvidia cards = 8-cell battery

Also, there is no note that cards are GT -- specs only say 8600 or 8600 GS (but, 8600 only is probably GT version).

Quite a mess, even ppl at Acer UK dont know what they sell

    b.

PiEs: there is no Acer supplied app that shows temp, vothages or fan rpm's

Hi to all the 5920 owners! Loving the laptop .. seems reliable enough for me too. I'm no overclocker but I would like the best performance I can find, so I would like to hear people's opinions on the best 5920G 8600M GT graphics drivers.

I am currently using 169.04 from lv2go - which was actually recommended earlier in this thread a few months ago I believe! Now although I'm quite happy with them, I have read that other users are using entirely different series of drivers - 167.xx / 169.xx / 174.xx and some others. I don't really understand which series I should use - the lv2go website seems to imply that the 17x.xx series are for desktops? But I've read about Acer 5920G users getting good performance from them (e.g. 174.16 I believe)?

Now that Vista SP1 has come out, I thought I would ask the people that know these things - so guys, which drivers do you use, are there any problems, how is the performance?

(NB: I don't play next-gen / DX10 games, in fact the most I play is probably Half Life 2 or Battlefield 2!)

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have the laptop in my sig, it also said Nvidia 8600 in the spec online but didn't say which one (GT or GS) I got to the store to find out and it was a GS. But to be honest it plays the 2 games I have (COD4 and Toca Race Driver 3) very well and doesn't come that far short of a GT version in 3D tests.
Check out the different models in the flesh 1st if you can, I will get a HDMI cable soon and see how well the HD-DVD drive performs on my 50" Sony.

Does anyone have this strange and annoying problem with the battery: there is no warning that the battery level is low, so lately I just forget about the battery and end up with the laptop entering hibernation mode. I've set the low warning at 15% and the critical level is at 5% (when it hibernates) but I can't rely on the battery meter. Yesterday it was at 20% and after a minute hibernation. When I powered it back on I got that tooltip that the battery is at 8% and I need to plug it. The laptop is one year old, but I sort of had this problem since the begining (the tooltip warning appears just when hibernation starts/the actual warning is just that small yellow sign that appears at the bottom of the battery icon but no tooltip or sound). I also have a Fujitsu Siemens (3 years, same old battery) and Windows XP always warns me about the critical level and I never had problems like these.

I thought that this is because I don't use all that bloatware from Acer and the warnings are just turned off because of the epower management.

Ah, one more thing. Before SP1 (Vista) I couldn't use the Bluetooth with my Sony Ericsson W880i phone. Windows installed some sort of drivers (for some features of the phone like using the phone as a remote control - for other phones and devices who used only file transfer etc, it worked fine) when the phone was discoverd (automatically, couldn't stop it) and whenever I tried to turn off the bluetooth I would end up with a blue screen. I had to use System Restore to get things working again. Has anoybody else had this problem? Could it be fixed now because of SP1?
