Hi all. Looking forward to get this lilliput, but thinking of possibilities of putting WWAN into it. Anyone has done it so far? On the spec page they say that ONE mini-PCI slot is available if you want to add WWAN.

    Any thoughts welcome!

This is just going by what I remember hearing somewhere, but if you have the US model (without 3G), the port is actually missing the connector. So you'd need that plus a new module.

That said, if second-hand WWAN modules are compatible with the Aspire, there are many good bargains on eBay. Lots of people are selling the WWAN modules out of their Thinkpads. I have no idea whether they play nice with other computers, however. Also, I think WWAN plans are still pretty expensive for what they offer.

Edit: I just pulled off the bottom panel to make sure. On mine, no connector. And I'm not good enough to solder one in. However, there are mods out there on how to add bluetooth. This empty space in the case might be a good place to stick the bluetooth module, then you might be able to tether to a phone.

As far as I know, lowest priced versions don't have those connectors installed... What is your model number?

Hmm...I thought at this point, they didn't come any more expensive than the ones with XP, 1GB, and the 160GB drive. (Which is my version.) Unless the WWAN models are being sold elsewhere in the world already...

You can buy for example Acer Aspire One A150-BGw. Just search for W in name as W is for WWAN ;). But it's more expensive than ordinary models.

Thanks, I will check that. But what card will suit it? Any particular brands? I use Sprint.
