    Hi,
I've just installed Windows Vista Business on my Aspire 5023WLMi and I've got everything working properly except the ATI x700 mobility video card. Every time I go into standby mode and then go back into Windows the screen goes grey with horizontal and vertical lines all over it. The only way to get the proper view back is to either close the lid (only works sometimes) or restart the machine. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and has anyone found out how to fix it? (I have the latest mobility drivers from ATI installed).

It sounds very similar to the bug described by ATI. ATI recommend using Catalyst 7.1 or higher. Is this what you have got? It is entirely plausible that the Vista driver is built around an earlier version and doesn't contain this fix.

I had the same issues. What I did was update the drivers to newer ones. But ATI does not provide Mobility drivers for cards in Acer laptops so you are going to have to do some modding.

    1) First you need the DriverHeaven Mobility Modder located: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/

    2) Latest ATI Catalyst/drivers release: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32

    3) Now go here: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ and scroll down to the section Installation step by step guide

    4) Follow those instructions and you will modify the Desktop drivers to be used on Laptops.
