As the title says, im about to try and install xp on my 5920G. My plan is to change the hd to ide mode via the bios and just install xp. All the device drivers will remain on my D partition for easy access.
My concerns are...
Will ide mode affect performance much ?
Will I be able to update to a sata driver once xp has been installed via device manager etc ?
I contemplated splipstreaming a cd but in all honesty im not overly confident and would rather not even try as im certain i`d make a right mess of it lol :-(

No it wont affect performance much for the limited time you will be using it. Once you have XP up and running, install the SATA drivers for it and then you can switch back your hdd to SATA mode.
If you don't do this, you obviously will be limiting your hardware's potential by having it run at a slower speed, but not something you will really notice. The bigger difference that can be felt is between hard drive rotational speeds, not between hard drive interfaces. One can usually tell a 5400rpm drive from a 7200rpm drive, but you would be very hard pressed to tell the difference between IDE or SATA drives (given that they have the same specs). -
Thanks for that Adinu
Have done the dirty deed now and all is well cept for a couple of problems ....
When i first booted the xp cd to install, it didnt give me the option of remove, delete or format partition etc and went ahead and simply installed lol.
Now thats not a major problem in itself except for the fact that its installed itself onto the same drive as vista. Now i dont get any dual boot options, no matter if its a cold boot or restart it will always boot into xp as if thats the only os on the hd. Just that id like to be rid of the vista files clogging up my hd.
The 2nd issue os that when attempting to update the sata drivers, it tells me that i have an imcompatible os ?!
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
