I just picked up an Acer 1355LC. The video memory is set to 64mb by default and I can't seem to find out if it's possible to lower it. I've checked in the BIOS but the only reference in there is a field showing current video memory and it's not possible to select/change that. Am I missing something or is this how it is? 64mb seems a waste just for the purpose in which the laptop is intended (general applications/inet browing).
Thanks in advance.

If the memory is user adjustable, it would normally be found in the display properties or under control panel. Acer may have some additional s/w that may control this size. Otherwise, it's locked at 64MB and is not user adjustable. They have to decide on overall purposes of the notebook. It may not just be limited to office apps and web surfing. Maybe someone might have a sudden need for apps that will utilize the 64MB of video memory or they may also want to play a game.

just a thought but you are normally able to set the shared video size in the bios(basic input output system)
i am not familiar with what bios is on your machine though
to enter the bios you normally have to press a key when booting up
possibly f2 or similar- it varies from different brands of bios
if you are not familiar with altering things in the bios i would ask someone who is
i hope this helps
what's this for? -
Snoozems,
Noikz has already tried the BIOS and did not find the option to make changes. Since it's not in the BIOS, it must be software controlled. if it is software controlled, it'll usually be in the Control Panel, Display Properties or in an Acer folder that has all their software/utilities located.

Thanks for the replies Venombite, I've had a good look around and it looks like its hard set to 64mb. It's not really a big problem, I just thought I was going crazy because I couldn't find anywhere to alter it. I've ordered a 512mb SODIMM today so that should help me out a little.
(great forum btw)
