I know this laptop was not designed for games and that's not it's primary purpose for me. However, I just wanted to see if we could have a list of the games that are confirmed to work on the Acer 1410.

I'll start. I tried Civilization 4. Works perfectly.

    "World of Goo" works great.
"Braid" runs poorly even after tweaking the launch parameters.
    "Dungeon Fighter Online" works decently.
"Torchlight" run really well at max res with netbook mode off :D

I'll update this as I try more games.

I'm considering getting one of these for my wife. She likes to play Second Life. I'm not that well versed in how the GMA4500 really compares to the 'minimum required ' GPUs so I'd like to hear some of your thoughts.

It plays very well on our main system of an E8400 with Radeon 3850 but doesn't work very well on our Dell Inspiron e1505 with ATI x1300.

    Basically minimum requirements are:
    http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/
-800 MHz Pentium III or Athlon, or better
    -512 MB or more ram
    -NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better
OR ATI Radeon 9500 or better
    OR Intel 945 chipset

Definitely meets more than those minimum requirements, and I'm guessing it will play very well.

Half life 2 performance far exceeded my expectation.

The Intel 4500 chipset is much better than the 945 Chipset. And it even has the advantage of some dedicated video cache memory, allbeit 64MB, on the 1410 which most other netbooks don't have at all. I know it is DirectX 10 compatible, which is also nice. I will have my 1410 later this week, and hope to post a review on here.

If you got a dual channel configuration and want to get the most out of non-Source games, use the original Vista drivers. For Source games the new Win7 drivers are best. I might post some more tips in a few days.

I didn't try but it shouldn't be much of a challenge for 1410/1810.

I've heard that in general Blizzard games tend to be easy on system requirements. That said, I'm wondering how the up and coming Diablo 3 would do on this system. I figure when it's released I'll add in a full sized proper gaming laptop.

After reading your post, I tried both Civ 4 and Warlords; since it was the very first time dealing with the no disk issue it took me a while but now they are working. I really, really like my SU2300 :)

A recent Blizzard developer for Diablo III stated the game was done entirely in DX9...

I would highly suspect it will run decently on a 1410/4500M(HD) just fine.

    Cheers,
    Kermee

I agree. If the OP doesn't do it, I'll open a new thread and maintain a list. Users should also list what CPU they have. It's kind of confusing that there's so far three different CPU's: SU2300 Dual Core Celeron M 1.2GHz , SU3500 Core 2 Solo, Celeron M 743 Single Core 1.3GHz

So far on my 1410 with Core 2 Solo SU3500 1.4GHz I've successfully run:

    - Aliens vs Predator 2
    - Battlefield 2 (1024x576 resolution, detail all low, view distance 100%)C
    - Osmos
    - Raven Shield
    - Sins of a Solar Empire
    - Trackmania United Forever
    - Starcraft
    - Warcraft 3

    Nice list. I agree.

    BTW- I knew I recognized you from eeeuser.com & n10user.com... ;)

hehe, yeah, cool. I'm loving this Acer far more than the Eee(s) and N10J I owned.

BTW, I started the new thread here:

I know this is an old thread, but please explain how you managed to make Battlefield 2 start up on 1024x576 resolution (unsupported.) i've been trying for days with no success..

    thanks
