I was using my 1410 today like I always do, and all of a sudden I noticed the Z key just stopped working. After further investigation I discovered not only was the Z not working, but also the V, the N, the ., L, J, you get the point. I removed the keyboard from the walkthroughs on this site and tried re-seating the ribbon cable but it didn't help.

I've found a replacement keyboard on Amazon, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try before buying a replacement.

Has anything like this been reported here before?

Make sure the electrical contacts on the ribbon cable is not damaged.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but it looks fine, I dont see anything frayed or cut. All of the contacts in the plug look OK too, they all seem to be the same color, no obvious corrosion or anything.

So after trying to reseat the ribbon cable a few more times it now is pressing a key constantly when Windows boots up. I cant tell which key since it boots up to the login screen.

Where do you live? Could this be a problem that developed due to a humid environment?

I used my AS1410-2285 for a few weeks in a tropical location with no air conditioning and also a few months in a cold environment in a damp house with no central heat.

Please keep us updated on your progress with this problem. Thanks.

I have placed the order for the replacement keyboard. Hopefully it will fix the problem.

FYI, mine is the AS1410-2801. My boss bought the same machine about a month after I did, so hopefully his doesn't start acting up too.

Also, something I noticed when I removed the keyboard, I can see where the long skinny sticker with the keyboard's serial number and barcode was peeled off and presumably replaced with the one that is currently on there. Maybe, my original keyboard was refurbed or something.

I bought the computer 10/26/2009, so just over a year ago  Would it be worth trying to call Acer support?

Installed the new keyboard and it is back working. There seems to be a little bulge in the 5 F5 F6 area, but I might just need to remount it a little better.
