Where can I download the latest drivers? (answer credits to dasfool)
Intel GS45 Express - Video, Chipset, Sata, Wireless
http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/GS45/GS45-overview.htm Click "Tools & Software" -> "Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Drivers" to get to the Video drivers.
Intel 5100 wireless drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ On left side hover "Wireless Networking" -> "Intel WiFi Products" -> "Intel® WiFi Link 5300 and Intel® WiFi Link 5100 products" -> Download the software application version, it should include the newest driver as well
Atheros - Lan
http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx Grab the drivers from the "Atheros AR81Family Windows Driver x86/x64(Win7,Vista, XP, Server 2003)" category. I'm not sure which one to grab though, "AR8131_AR8132" or "AR81FamilyWinSetup" I'm guessing either would work.
The Alcor website seems inaccessible at the moment so I can't get updated card reader drivers and I don't know which camera and touchpad is in this so those will have to wait as well.
How can I enable two finger scrolling and three finger gestures for the touchpad?
BIOS recovery. If you bricked your device, this might help. Works on 8471, other timelines should be similar.
Warning!This is experimental! Please report back if it works for you!
Edit: The forum's spamfilter removed a part of the flash program's filename, it's called f_l_a_s_h_i_t.exe

I did install the launch manager, the volume, standby, mute and etc buttons all work except the brightness... Which is why its weird... Do I need to install the drivers in a certain order to get it to work? I remember having similar issues with my vaios...
@dannylu88
I'm sorry, I don't know. Maybe it's the graphics driver's fault, just guessing here.
Edit:
Someone on a Chinese board has the same problem. Seems to be XP related. If I find out something, I'll let you know.
how performance of 4810 ?
does it perform well?
any error or bug?
how was it compare with K40IN ?
which one would be better?
as i recently consider few of laptop....
@dannylu88
Maybe it would be a good idea to start a timeline thread explicitly dedicated to XP. There are other people on the board who installed XP on their timelines but info gets buried pretty fast among Vista/Win7 users. I will join the club, but right now I wait for my 1810tz to come to Germany in about two months.
An alternative method for 720p and 1080p playback for Windows 7 users:
I didn't have enough time with the laptop to try the Bourne clip but I've tried others, including a 20GB 1080p movie, and they played great. Can someone with the 1410 and W7 confirm whether or not Phil's Bourne clip plays smoothly?
I probably won't have my 1410 for another week (Amazon was being rather lame so i canceled and went with J&R) so I can't try and of this myself.
I finally got Alcor's website to load and discovered they don't have drivers to download their. Looks like we're stuck with what Acer gives us for the card reader. It's labeled x86 though, is that driver ok to install for Vista/7 x64?
I dug through the camera driver zips and the only one that says anything about Crystal Eye is the Chicony driver. I'm not convinced that this is the manufacturer though. Can anyone chime in on which camera is actually in this machine (AS1410 America) and is it ok for x64?
Last, I did a bit of homework and it looks like the AS1410 has a Synaptics touchpad with gesture support, etc. so I went to the Synaptics website and it says that you should get the drivers from the manufacturer's website instead of using the generic driver from Synaptics, otherwise you may lose some functionality. Looks like we'll be using the Acer driver and, thankfully, this one includes an x64 folder.
I installed windows 7 x64 RTM and the synaptics driver 12.2.4.1 x64
I am able to enable all gestures and use the two finger scroll utility (found on the net) on my red 1410. Ive had it since friday from J&R.
The two finger scroll works, but is a bit quirky. its not very good like my macbook pro. I need more practice.
I'm running the x64 launch manager version 2.0.04 to get the keyboard volume controls to work. The keyboard seems a bit slow though with this installed. I'll probably remove it.
Phil, I will start putting important quotes in this thread that shouldn't get lost. Feel free just to delete them if you want to put it in the first post
@Phil
Yes they are, unfortunately. Others have tried on other timelines, but it didn't work. The 1410/1810t are made by Quanta just like the Aspire One SmartFan was developed for.
To install Windows 7 (RC is all I've tested) from flash:
1) Get the ISO (MS is no longer offering the download - if yours was a corrupted ISO, or if you didn't download it before the August 19, 2009 deadline, you'll have to get from a friend or somewhere). If yours is bad, you will probably get errors like "A required CD/DVD drive driver was not found." To confirm the ISO is good and save frustration, run this app
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090706/windows-7-iso-verifier/.
3) Download an app to view the iso as a virtual CD/DVD. Virtual Clone Drive is the simplest (
http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html), but if you already installed Virtual CD (
http://www.virtualcd-online.com/index.cfm) to run your Acer eRecovery, that would work too. In either program, you need to "mount" your Windows 7 RC ISO file - then it will appear as a virtual DVD.
4) Download an app to transfer the setup files to a flash drive and make it bootable. This one worked great for me:
http://wintoflash.com/. Install it (if you download the .zip, then just extract to a folder), then run it. Choose Task (tab), then "Transfer Windows 7 Vista/7 to flash." Click Create. Pick your location of the DVD image (mounted via VirtualCloneDrive, VirtualCD, etc). Then pick your destination (letter where your USB flash drive is connected). Wait 5+ minutes. It should be successful.
Optional: if you modify the F:\sources\ei.cfg file (where F: is the letter of your flash drive) or delete it entirely, you can choose to install a different version, say Home Premium, to see what features you'll get via the upgrade from Acer. So you don't get too attached to Ultimate and have to buy it in October. : ) Instructions are here:
http://windows7center.com/news/how-to-install-any-version-or-sku-of-windows-7/.
If you do this, Windows 7 will be running in evaluation mode, as the license key is only for Ultimate at this time. You can work around this for the couple months until Acer sends US Win7 Home Premium by running "slmgr -rearm" at the command prompt as administrator every 29 or 30 days. This can be done I believe three times.
5) Reboot. You can hit F12 to pick your boot device (if you didn't already enable this function, hit F2, then find and enable it in the BIOS menu options).
6) You should now be at the Windows 7 setup screen. Follow the instructions to install, reboot, and you're in! It should take maybe 20-25 minutes.
Note: If you have already created 3 primary partitions, Windows 7 will likely not install. It wants 2 free primary partitions (4 is the most you can have), one for a hidden boot partition and one for Windows 7 itself.
If you only have the original partition setup from Acer, you're fine. You can shrink the Vista partition by half and have roughly 100GB for Windows 7. Or alternately boot Ubuntu or another Linux distro and use GParted. This may, however, destroy the Vista boot table because of the non-standard offset Vista uses for its partition settings (google for more info). Particularly if you try to move the Vista partition instead of shrinking/resizing it.
7) Install Synaptic Touchpad updates per other posts in this thread, and you should be basically done. I did try installing the chipset drivers, but the Windows 7 version was the most recent, so this step should be unnecessary, at least for now.
Note: If you install Windows 7 x64 drivers on Windows 7 32-bit, you will have to do a System Restore. Probably should have been obvious but I hadn't done much with 32-bit vs. 64-bit. Make sure you get 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit version.
Let me know if you see errors or corrections that need to be made. Thanks.
Confirmed. I get same error on Win7 x64 with the options section edits. It is quiet enough until the fan rattling starts. I hope the electrical tape mod fixes that.
Like Jayayess says, they are for all 4500MHD including 1410/1810t. They are from the desktop section, so they are newer than the respective Notebook drivers you can download on Intel's site.
Thank you Jayayess1190 for the fast answer.
I did the best I can to save power.. low brightness, nowifi, cpu maximum capacity at 80%... leaf is glowing
lame reviews where people said that its battery lasts about 7 or 8 hours make me angry now :- )
@netics
Did you measure battery life in Vista first?
An important factor for the 5810t is the optical drive disabling feature. If your drive stays on all the time, you know what is sipping the juice.
I'm on windows 7 64bit -7100 and i am getting over 6hrs close to 7hr of battery time . i am using power save mode and and i turn up the screen brightness halfway up.
I got a 1410 and coming from a 1000H and a macbook air, I really missed the multitouch feature in the trackpad. After some searching I came up with this solution.
This program does give you both scrolling and right click, even if you don't use the synaptics driver above, but I found the scrolling not to be as smooth as with the driver.
