Can you only register for that site if you are chineese? It keeps asking for the region and has none outside of China. Am I missing something. I am very interested in this mod and would like to see the photos. Thanks.

The region it asks is province/city in China, just select whatever you like or you know of...

Just wanted to let you know that this works on my 1810T. I followed your write-up to the letter (had to downgrade my BIOS version from 3310), had to reboot twice tho but then VT was enabled.

    Thx a lot!!

    1st,
big thank you to OP and everyone else who contributed this invaluable time saving info.

    onto the meat and potatoes...
i am Having issues with my 1410. once in a while, the hardware interrupts shoot up to 99% of CPU utilization and I am unable to do anything on the notebook. A hard reboot is all I can do to get it going again. I thought it had to do with the sound driver, which I updated, didn't help.

any other ideas? I am simply stuck.

    any help is much appreciated.

can anyone help me figure out why my audio is constantly stuttering in DivX Web Player, so far it's done it for one video in either the local DivX Plus Player and WMP. I'm using Vista Home Premium x86 SP2. I'm using an Aspire 1410-8803 with SU3500. The video plays fine and smooth but the audio is constantly stuttering especially if I chose full screen.

Only one video? Other videos are fine? Then it's probably somewhat defective (or encoded with wrong parameters).

your issue looks a lot like hard disk/file system errors. Open command prompt with administrator priveledges. Run this command "chkdsk c: /v /x /b" assuming C: is your OS drive letter. If the drive is in use (most likely if it's your OS drive) it will ask if you want to schedule it to run at the next reboot. Chose yes or "y" and it will run a drive integrity check and the /v parameter should display all results and sector being checked in realtime. If it fixes any errors run the same command again until it finds no more errors.

You can run that command for any drive you suspect is having trouble or you just want to check. /B and /R should be rarely necessary or useful when using an SSD but it can still help if say you had a sudden powerloss.

No I meant so far only 1 video has this issue in both players but all videos have this issue in the DivX Web Player. Meaning Vista's WMP runs the same videos smooth where DivX Plus local player has audio stutter occassionally but DivX Web Player ALWAYS has audio stutter. Also the videos play smoother and less stutter in IE8 than it does in Firefox 3.6.3. Entirely possible that Firefox's lack of performance has to do with 20 tabs active in 3 windows and IE8 only has 4-8 tabs open. Stutter also increases when I make the DivX Web Player full screen.

Then there is something wrong with the Divx software (perhaps hardware acceleration not possible) or some settings need to be adjusted.
I guess, IE is using WMP for playback, and FF is using something else. This would explain the difference in playback performance.
This also indicates, some optimizations with this DivX player are needed.

Perhaps try some other player like VLC (1.1 Release Candidate) or Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

none of those 2 softwares you mentioned have a player built into the web browsers. Both FF and IE8 are using the DivX Web Player, the Web Player is a seperate programe from the local DivX Plus Player still both come from the same DivX install package and use the same codecs.

in fact the audio stutter reminds me of what people describe with improperly optimized SSD operation lol. On the Web Player it happens every couple of minutes of video, when I run the vid on WMP the file has already finished buffering/downloading and plays smooth there. However if I run the same downloaded file on the local DivX Plus Player there is occassional stutter. I know I'm repeating myself.

    Hi,
If you need the business-oriented feature set of Win7 Pro, then go for it. Otherwise stick with the preinstalled Windows version.

Thinking of getting a Gateway EC1805U. From what I've read this is a AS1410 with a SU3500 Core2Solo processor. I would have preferred to get a AS1410 w/ su2300, but none were available.

Any problems I should be aware of before I get the Gateway? This should be better than my current Acer Aspire One w/ 1.6GHz Atom not to mention the better screen. Is the battery life 5 hours with the 6 cell battery? I'm assuming it is better (performance and battery life) to get the su3500 instead of the models Celeron 743?

Can I install the bios and drivers for the AS1410 on the Gateway? Has anyone been able to software overclock (e.g. softfsb) the AS1410?

Is the su3500 in the as1410 socketed or soldered? I saw someone on ebay selling oem su2300s. I was wondering if an upgrade is as easy as replacing the socketed CPU.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    You're Welcome :)

I consider this a waste of money. The "Pro" version doesn't prevent the user from doing something wrong when he attempts to access a network.
If the computer is intended to be connected to a business network, then this isn't possible without advice from the network's administrator. Normally he wouldn't allow the connection of private computers at all.

The Acer 752 with the SU2300 CPU apprears to be on sale at Wallmart in Canada if I am reading this article correctly.

    [Comp] HOT! walmart - acer AO752 11" dualcore netbook SU2300/2GB/250GB/HDMI/win7 $350 - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

Anybody seen this in the states ... sounds like a great deal? Are these really for sale in Wallmarts across canada? Can you replace the 752's 3 cell with a 6 cell?

Hello, from several days I'm a pround owner of a 5810TZG. I'm very happy with it, except for a very stupid problem. I google and search the forums, however i didn't find anything so sorry if I'm duplicating things.

The problem is with the swichable GPU's. On Windows 7 ultimate, after installing all drivers, I can switch from the ATI to the Intel graphics, but not the other way around...

    Any solution to this?

    Thanks in advance.

BIOS is version 1.21, I'm going to update it to 1.34. (I wonder whether i should install the 2.35 which is set as for special edition 2009 in acer support)

The latest ATI driver from their official site says it's not supporting switchable graphics (maybe they don't like Intel anymore). I'm using the latest driver from the official website.+

Edit: After BIOS update it's still the same - ATI GPU to Intel Switches fine, Intel to ATI - display blinks but still stays on Intel

Btw I'm running 32 bit version.

There are a group of 3810T owners who are very familiar with the bios on this unit. Here is a mod thread ... I would post your problem there and i'llbe they can help.

I was thinking for the same modification, which would require restart every time i want to swich the GPU. However I'm planning on using the Radeon only on outlet power and the Intel GPU on battery, so it shouldn't be such a great loss.
Except for the lost functionality (if it worked as it's supposed it would be cool).

Btw, I'm installing only the ATI Driver, should I install the Intel one??

I wrote Acer support, but I doubt that would be of any help.

I suppose it can't be a faulty unit that I got... any other owners, having similar problem?

It doesn't sound like a hardware issue. I was not suggesting that you use the MOD, I was suggesting that you post on that thread. Those guys seem to know a lot about the bios of the 3810T. I'll bet they've encountered your problem before.

I suppose the BIOS of 3810 is pretty much alike the one of 5810T (zg) except for the screen difference and num keyboard.

But I think the whole problem is somewhere in the OS/Driver not BIOS. I'll check how are things with Linux, if it supports Switchable graphics, then I can troubleshoot what's going on. But given the fact ATI has such good reputation on it, i doubt.

Just upgraded my 1410 to Win 7 Ultimate. I seem to have lost the web cam, at least any software to operate it. It does show up as a device and appears to be installed in Device Manager. I do not instant message but would like the cam to work as it did on the factory install of Win 7 Home Pro. Is there a program on the Acer site that lets you run the cam?

Of course, there is. Simply check Acer support website for 1410/1810 drivers. Acer used to install webcams from at least 3 manufacturers, so it might be somewhat difficult to find out what download is working for you. I guess, it's the Suyin webcam.

Instead of searching Acer website, you could also use your drivers&application disc (which you hopefully created before reinstalling the OS) :D

does anyone know if it will cause any type of damage to run defrag on the hidden recovery partition? I have a 3rd party defragmenter (Perfect Disk 11 Pro) that can analyze the recovery partition's contents but I havn't run a defrag on it yet as a precaution. I was planning to reorganize the files for aggressive performance and also defrag the filesystem metadata in that partition.

Hope someone can tell me soon if defragging the recovery partition can do any type of damage to the recovery data. I do know the partition is NTFS.

I'm thinking that nothing would happen since nothing is ever written/rewritten to that partition, the files should never be fragmented. In any case performance on the recovery partition should be a non issue since we compute in the c: partition anyway. What do you think?

I know the recovery partition has no effect on operating performance. I meant for when I run the recovery, it takes quite a while and I figured since it's so fragmented that organizing it for aggressive performance would make recoveries run faster. I'm just worried that the recovery requires data to be in certain specific sectors/LCN. Like when people use linux to make a WinXP CD with all the versions (Home-Server) on the same disc by replacing duplicate installation files with pointers to a single file.

new question, can anyone help me figure out why my memory bandwidth drops 200MB/s and adds 4ns more latency when I run on AC power but returns to the higher performance when I unplug the AC power and return to battery power? It makes no difference which power plan I use. The change only occurs between battery and AC power.

Hey guys, I'm currently using a 4810T and have been having a tremendous amount of problems with mkv playback (1080p /w DTS). I managed to get decent playback going but I still seem to be getting some sort of micro-stuttering (or possible frame drops?) when playing through HDMI on my HDTV.

I tried a handful of MPC-HC combinations without any luck.

I read the best combination on W7 was WMP12 + Haali + ffdshow (audio), so that's what I'm currently using (with the latest intel gma drivers), but I'm STILL experiencing these stutters, which are VERY noticeable and ruin the whole experience. (CPU usage rarely goes over 40% and it's still stuttering...)

Did anyone manage to get perfect playback (or at least close to it)? I am open to any possible solution, as I'm really regretting my decision in purchasing this laptop. Thanks.

wow no one gave any input to the poor guy? Maybe he asked in the wrong thread, I suggest you look into which power mode you are using and then adjust/change the " Advanced Power Settings" for the power plans you have. The advanced settings are several levels deep of clicking. You see details like " Maximum processor state", PCI Express " Link State Power Management", and even " Minimum processor state" could cause stutter/latency if the cpu power state dips too low and can't ramp back up again fast enough. When you find the right menu you'll see 12 categories and a couple sub-categories in each containing their own power vs performance options you can adjust.

Now back to my previous question, anyone figure out why I get a diff in RAM performance/bandwidth of about 150-200MB/s and a CPU latency diff of 4ns; plus the fact that I get the higher performance when running on battery power and the lower perf on AC cord power?

Hey Ghetto Child, thanks for the reply.

I checked those settings and everything is set to 100%, and "Link State Power Management" is set to "Off".

Also made sure "High performance" was ticked off while playing video - still have stuttering issues.

Can anyone help with this problem?

I have a 3810tz, did fresh W7 64 bit HP install then reinstalled all drivers as standard from e-recovery disc I'd made.

However I cannot update the 4500mhd/Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family drivers. I'm using 8.15.0010.1892 currently, the Intel driver update tool says my graphics product is unsupported and whenever I try to run an update it says the same and won't install.

    Confusing.

    Many TIA

    Hi,

    please try this:
Uninstall the existing drivers using "Add/Remove Programs..." in Control Panel. Then try installing the newer Intel drivers again.
