    Greetings to all:
I would like to disable the PowerSmart option on my 4810TZ laptop. After booting up a message appears on the screen advising me that the power to the optical drive has been turned off to optimize power useage. To turn it On I have to press the eject button and press it again to open the drive. I have just finished talking to an Acer tech who stepped me through regedit and removed the "Upper Filter" or something. After rebooting my laptop it went into a black and white page and only after opting for Start Normall twice it went into a repair mode and finally it restarted ok. And it did not fix the issue as the above message reappeared. While the power is off the Optical Drive is not recognized by the Device Manager. Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

if I remember correctly, then there should be an application for that purpose preinstalled. Perhaps it helps, if you simply uninstall this application using the software applet in Control Panel.
It should be the "Optical Drive PM application" (no idea about the real name).

i have an aspire 1410 with celeron 723... im going to change the cpu for a su9600 or sl9400... btw i dont know if bios does support the sl9400... the chipset itself supports both the fsb at 1066 and the cpu but what about bios? think that sl9400 is a better deal since i can undervolting all vids to 0.875 and it will work like a SU dissipating only 10w too.

    Hi,

if I remember correctly, then the CPU is not socketed, but soldered onto the motherboard.

I have installed all the latest drivers from Acer for my Timeline 1810T, however, I randomly sometimes have problems adjusting backlight using the Fn+arrow keys. It works when I boot it up, but if I hibernate and wake up, it randomly does not work half of the time.

What driver from which vendor's website, can I use, to fix this backlight adjustment problem?

    Hi,

I have an Aspire 11.6" 1410-2287 bought here in Brazil and accidentally spilled some coffee on its touchpad...

Now it obviously doesn't work anymore. The enterprise that takes care of Acer technical support here is awful, you cannot count on them.

So, anybody knows were to buy a new touchpad?

    Please help! :D

Hello, I`m from Romania, this is my first post on this forum. I have a problem with my Acer 1410-8373. I have installed windows xp 32bit and the wireless adapter is not working with the official driver on the acer site. I put a print screen with the problem and the driver.

L.E: I use the driver on the first page from intel web page and fix the problem.

Another problem: How to enable ahci mode in windows xp ?

    Thank you.

    Hi,
Acer is using different WLAN modules. Of course, these drivers are also available on Acer support website ;)

You should have done that during installation with a Windows CD that has the Intel AHCI drivers integrated. My personal advice: leave it as is.

If you made your recovery discs, then you'd have three discs (DVD) for the factory preinstall plus one disc with drivers and applications.

Apart from questionable sources like p2p networks, I'd guess you can order a set of recovery discs from Acer. And you need an USB optical drive (at least DVD-ROM) anyway in order to restore your system.

    Hi all,

I'd like to know if virtualization is the functionality used by VMWare?

If so I see that virtualization should be enabled by the current BIOS however securable says it is not.

Thanks for any hint regarding this...

    BR,
    Ed

One more: Any ambitions regarding hardware extention like an external disk eSATA?

    Hi,

I guess, if present, VT hardware support is used, but I doubt, it is mandatory. Feel free to check VMWare website for details. They should mention the system requirements anywhere.
Even MS published a patch to remove the VT hardware support requirement from their Virtual PC software.

Apart from that, VT support is not only a matter of Bios, but also a CPU feature. Especially the wide-spread lower priced CPUs like the SU4100 do not have that feature.

I've recently installed a new SSD and fresh copy of Win7 HP on my Gateway(Acer)... I'm on the Acer support page for drivers/apps and noticed this "ePower Acer" app... what does it do? I installed it anyways thinking that it's the OSD application which was the Launch Manager.

    Hi,

the purpose of the "ePower" application seems to be confusion of users and occupying some space on the HDD.
Perhaps (and this is unconfirmed) it adjusts some basic power management settings, but there is no user interface.

Most users here agree that "ePower" is not needed on Windows 7 systems.

    Hm

the Intel Driver Update Utility no longer recognizes my 1810T's graphics as Intel, it says they're custom from the manufacturer. It's always worked fine with them before.

Is it for a new install or,is there smething wrong with your 1410?
when it is a new isntall, download somewere an OEM windows 7 home premium and use youre key at the bottom, that will work,it did with my 1810tz

installing win 7 from an usb external hdd is also possible, did that several times on my 1080tz.Copy an image of win7 to the first partition of the hdd and let the notebook boot from usb(check bios boot settings).

VMware requires VT support only for 64bit guest OS:
Same way as with a USB flash drive. This surely works with a real Windows 7 installation disc (or image), but I doubt, such will work with the heavily customized recovery stuff Acer slapped onto their laptops.

Just a tip for those of you with Atheros network adaptors (wired or wireless), I've been using this link to get driver updates and they update them regularly as I've already downloaded 4 versions since buying this Aspire 1410 in 2009? I think they update several times a year. I'm still trying to find latest drivers for a discontinued Atheros AR5005G WiFi adaptor.

Of course, go to Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Server and Embedded Processor Technology - Intel and go to downloads. An automatic driver test at intel should get you your driver.

Uninstall your current driver first. Acer and microsoft updates downloaded drivers doesn't upgrade from intel site.

Then, ensure you never uodate your driver again by microsoft update process.

Does anyone know / made a BIOS MOD for the 5810TG, that supports the selection between: INTEL and ATI graphic card?

The original BIOS only supports ATI or BOTH :-\

I really need to upgrade to Windows 8, and don't want to be stuck to old drivers with switchable support. Just want to decide when to use one or the other, and don't mind to select that in the BIOS.

I have a MOD that gives all the hidden features (INTEL menu), but this mod does not change the graphic card selection menu.

    Thanks!
