My Acer 1640Z crashed when doing a system restore to an earlier date. Now when I try to start the machine following the Windows XP start up screen I get the following error on a Blue Screen.

    Stop: c000021a (Fatal System Error)
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I have tried to boot using the recovery disc and a Windows XP disc but this makes no difference & I get the same error.

I don't want to restore the factory settings as I will lose information on the hard drive. Will I be able to recover the Hard Drive Information using a USB to Sata cable & another laptop then try restoring the factory settings.

Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Yes- if you connect the HDD through a SATA-USB bridge you will be able to retrieve your personal information from the HDD.
