    Hi

I realise that topics similar to this thread have been posted all over the web however after a couple of days of browsing I can't find exactly what I'm after and wondered if anyone could help.

I run an Acer 1652 laptop with Win XP Home. The hidden recovery partition/system current works perfectly fine which I'm happy with. I am interested in making the laptop dual boot between the existing Win XP OS and Ubuntu however I want to keep the ability to recovery to factory settings with WinXP at any time. The drive spec currently sits at 100GB total, 4GB HIDDEN PARTION (D2D), 45GB C:\ (FAT32), 45GB D:\ (FAT32). I'd like to reduce C:\, create additional partitions for Ubuntu, use the remaining space to add to D:\, and set the whole machine up for dual boot.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Will changing the partitions and/or their sizes with a program such as partition magic affect my ability to use the Alt + F10 recovery of WinXP from the hidden partition?

    2. If I alter the partions in any way (size or definition), will they be reset to 45GB/45GB when the Acer recovery facility is used?

    3. (Finally and most importantly) Is it possible to have WinXP dual booted with Ubuntu (or other linux distribution) AND keep the ability to use Alt+F10 to recover WinXP should it be required in the future?

Many thanks for all your help.
