    Acer 1681 laptop battery

    Well, the biggest drawback of this model is the crappy 4-cell battery. I know overseas they have it with the 8-cell which gives it a great 5-hr life.

    Anybody know of any stores in the UK or Europe from which I can buy a AS1681 8-cell battery? Or for that matter, if anyone knows of any US or Canada stores that have it.

    That'll make the 1681 a lot better.

    Hey Romulus,

    You may want to go to a shop that has the Acer 4501 on display. I'm thinking the battery is swappable between the 1681 & 4501 (casing is identical). The 4501 has an 8 cell battery and would give you the approx 5hrs of runtime. A user posted a link here in the Acer section recently about an 8 cell battery compatible with the 4000 series & 1680 series going for $140. This is what made me believe the batteries were interchangable. If so, just get a 4501 battery and you're set.

    Well, I just checked on newegg. They are the same casing, same battery geometry and shape.

    You can check yourselves:

    4000 series

    1680 series

    click on the images for the contents. You'll see the battery. They are exactlyt he same shape and size.

    Except the specs say 5 hours for the 4000 series, and 2.5 hours for the 1680 series. Unless they are lying, means that one has a 4-cell, the other an 8-cell.

    and you can buy the 8-cell at buy.com, PCnation, CDW and other places.
