    Hi there

Quick question regarding connecting Aspire 1690 to an external monitor: How the hell do I do it?

It works fine during start up. But reverts back to original screen after that. The function key is not working. Well it's working but fn + f5 isn't. I can do the extended screen, where the laptop screen acts like the primary screen and I can drag things onto the external screen. But I just can't get the **** thing to work as primary monitor with the laptop screen doing nothing but dozing off.

    So, help, please.

PS Sorry if this has been discussed before. Didn't find it in search.

    Thanks for the help man.

Needless to say, guilty as charged. I removed a lot of the acer software during a format. Can you please specify which software should I be specifically looking for?

    Thanks again.

Well, you can start with ACER power management module.
    And the ACER launcher ..

This two, will do the job.

If you removed the Acer Empowering Technology software, you need to download and install Launch Manager. That should take care of the fn+F5. Also, are you running Vista? I run XP, and I have never used Acer's software, but have never had a problem either. I can easily manage an externa monitor with Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator control, and I have brought the laptop to school and plugged it in to the projectors in the classroom without having to use the Acer ePresntation whatever it is thingy. Best of luck.

Anyway... just right click desktop, go to properties/customise (xp/vista) and there are some settings there that you can do it all from.
