My nephew has an Acer 1690 with DDR2 533 ram. It continually crashes and dosen't go past the post screen. I can load the recovery disks and get Windows XP Home going again, but within a day or so it just stops and fails to go past the post screen. The hard drive has been replaced - it wasn't that. I replaced the ram with a new 1 Gig stick of DDR2 533 - it wasn't that. I contacted Acer and their tech support told me to turn it off, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it in and start it. When Windows is running, reinsert the battery. This for a power reset. I have done all that and will now see if it works. Has anyone had similar problems with an Acer product and what (if anything) worked for you?

Is this a new laptop? If it is, you can return it back. But I am guessing, it's not. What you can do is updating the bios and see if this helps. You can check this site for updating the bios or any other drivers here
