Hi.
I've just bought new Acer 1691 WLMi and have a big problem. It works great, but after turning off something inside is still working and makes battery empty. I opened it week ago and what can I say is that there's coming a little noise near VGA radiator. I have LXA42... version, VGA BIOS Alviso 3412 and BIOS S3C11. This computer was made for US market.
What I can say more is that the noise isn't made by HDD.
Can I load BIOS which is made for european LXA43,44... version with DDR memory??
Thanks for Your answers.

Baryl,
How long did you wait before the battery was dead? Batteries still have to keep a bit of power flowing to the unit because of the internal clock. Also, the battery will loose a certain persent of power just sitting idle.
Also, is it in sleep/Standby mode or is it actually off? In sleep/standby mode, power is still flowing to the memory to keep the state active. This mode saves a lot of power since it doesn't have to power the CPU at 100% or any other parts like the HDD. Leaving it in this state will probably drain all your battery power within a day or two.
If it happens overnight and it's actually off, there could be a problem with the system itself. Possible something is not actually turning off. I'd send the unit in for service at that point.

It happened to 1691 WLMi. But don't worry - I bought it on eBay.
The computer in actually OFF. It is not in stand by mode.
In this state battery works for about 5-7 days.
I don't know if BIOS uprgading will manage this problem. What do You think about this? -
So the system is off for 5-7 days and then when you try turning it on on day 7 there's no power? I'm not sure what the standby (idle) times of batteries these days. On the older units, they probably lasted around the week area while idle with the unit off.
Contact Acer and have them send you a new battery, it's possible there could be something wrong with the battery as well.
Regarding the BIOS, upgrading it shouldn't make a difference when it's off.
Also, using a BIOS not really designed for your specific unit may make the unit completely useless. The European models may differ in systemboard design by a bit and the BIOS may just choke without those differences. I'd stick with the BIOS made specifically for your notebook.
