    does anyone own a similar model and find it just overheats?

    the unit is only a year old so i doubt there's dust in it. the fan goes at top speed but hardly any air comes out of the vent. could it be melted or dislodged?

    anyway im gonna send it off to be repaired

    If it has been a year, then there is probably a lot of dust stopping the air flow. See if you can clean it. Try using some compressed air to get rid of the dust.

    Second the dust thing. Mine was pretty packed with dust after only 6 months.

    For smaller size and better efficiency, laptops today use radiators that have much closer spaced veins. The result is they trap dust much better.

    I cleaned up a 3 year old big clunky Toshiba the other day and there was hardly any dust built up, but again, my 6 month old Acer was full of dust from the reason above.

    It's a cheap, easy thing to do, but make sure you remove the heat radiators completely to clean them. They are designed with this mantenance in mind, so don't be so afraid of your screwdriver.

    i guess dust buildup sounds reasonable. i didn't think it'd clog up in such short time.

    and i wont be opening it up, i paid for 3 year guarantee of whatever so i'll let the acer people do the work for me :}
