just checked mine and i always have a black background on my desktop.

i turned my back light up to full and there is a very slight change when you change the viewing angle.but turning down the back light helps :)

there's just a hint of bleed but nothing to moan about :)

it starts about 40mm in from both edge's.
the crystalbrite is a nice screen but when sitting out in the garden on a sunny day. the reflection can be a pain :(

how are you getting on with the larger laptop ?
i keep going back to my old (4years old)travelmate.it has a smaller screen, and is lighter.

This is my first laptop and i must amit it is abit cumbersome to move about.

Is your black screens in windows or Ms-dos prompt as black as when the laptop is switched off as i have a white haze across the screen and it doesn't change very much when i turn the brightness down and i'm unsure if it's supposed to be like that being my first laptop.

Black for me is more like a dark grey. ?

my desktop is set to black background as this just makes it easier on the eye.
its set to black by using the the desktop tap.
right click on any part of the screen and select Properties...desktop. then just set it to black.
the biggest grip i have is the wifi launch button.its in such a stupid place if your not careful when you go to move the laptop you can push it without thinking :(
