Hi,
i have a 2 year old 1810TZ (UK bought) and recently the hard drive failed completely.
I bought a new 500GB replacement and although i have the rebuild ISO images i thought this would be a good time to do a clean install - i always meant to do this after reading these forums but never got round to it.
So, after much reading the Timeline Tweaks thread, i finished a clean install, got the OEM cert working, fixed a bizarre Intel driver Windows Update issue, updated BIOS to skip the Win7 boot delay etc etc.
Now, everything is working absolutely fine bar one thing - the webcam. Ive read the threads around this and everyone says that the standard Win7 USB drivers work. They detect my camera ok, but every application (Skype, MSN etc) says cannot open camera or another program is using etc.
I know a little bit about PCs but ive been through every single debug and driver that i can think of, but to be honest i dont even know which camera driver i should be using (not that it matters since ive tried them all). The camera is listed as VID:0c45 PID:6310 which i have found to be a Microdia Sonix model, but whether this is the Chicony or not who knows.
If i install Sonix driver 5.8.33.1 then the camera is detected as Sonix and its drivers are seen as preferred over the standard Win7 USB driver, but the camera still doesnt work. If i then install the Acer Chicony software it installs Acer Crystal Eye etc and the camera is then detected as an Acer Crystal Eye camera, but it still doesnt work.
All of the 'standard' Acer drivers just use the Win7 USB drivers - other people have posted that the Acer Crystal Eye stuff is really just a camera app rather than a real driver and it looks that way to me.
This isnt the half of what i've tried and its driving me nuts. I've even given up and tried the Acer recovery image to rebuild that way, bt even that only got to DVD 3 and then wouldnt start Windows for the first time, so i blanked that again and went back to my 'clean' build (without a working webcam).
Has anyone any suggestions or seen this issue elsewhere? To be honest, as with all of these things i can live without the camera, but it becomes a point of principle to beat these things ;-)
Thanks

Hi
I have EXACTLY the same problem. My hard drive died so the recovery partition isn't available. I have recovery CDs but they re-install the whole system and I prefer my clean Windows 7 to the acer bloatware.
Did you ever find a solution?
I was advised to update the chipset driver from the Acer website which I did, but it didn't make any difference. I also have the 0C45 6310 webcam but can't find a definitive answer which driver it needs. Like you I have tried all three on the Acer website without success. I've found that sometimes the Acer Crystal Eye will install and sometimes it won't. On one occasion I managed to install two copies simultaneously!
I'd really like a solution to this as my son has moved to Berlin and I'd like to Skype him. Acer are no help at all.
