What's the diffrence?
I've noticed that visually they look slightly diffrent, but specs wise I can't find anything that's diffrent...
at first i thought the 2010 didn't have the arcade stuff beacuse it looks like it doesn't have the lcd on the front part, but the specs say it has it..
anyone know what's diffrent?
there is a 2020 too, which looks the same as the 2000

I'm still looking to see whether or not the Aspire 2010 will actually have the lcd arcade display.. According to the pics, it will not, but according to the specs it will [?]
Other than that, there are some clear differences of the Aspire 2012WLMi model with the 2000 series:
1) DVD +R/2.4x -R/2x (from -R/2x only)
2) Ati 9700 64MB (from 9200 64MB)
3) Wireless 802.11g (from 802.11b)
That's about it for now []

update:
Acer Aspire 2012WLMi Vs Aspire 2003WLMi:
a) 1.5GHz Pentium M ~~ 1.6GHz Pentium M
b) tray dvd ~~ Slot loading dvd
c) NO arcade console, NO arcade buttons ~~ Arcade installed
This is for sure now, the 2010 series will NOT have any lcd and or multimedia buttons. You will probably be able to reproduce the functionality of these buttons, probably via Fn + Key combinations
d) as a result of (c), perhaps the 2012 will have better partitioning (no need for Linux partition)

Hi,
Have you thought about the soon to be released 2020?
Aspire 2025WLMi with 1.80 GHz processor with 2MB Cache, 80GB hard drive, 512MB RAM, Multi DVD (+/-/RAM), wireless b/g, bluetooth
Just look at it, it's easier!

That's the one I want!!!
Cheers
I thought, "What's the worst that could possibly happen?"
Then it did! [B)] -
Hmm.. where did you find out this info clairvoyant?
I'd rather have no arcade at all, i wouldn't use it.. and i don't want the extra partition. having hardware (lcd and buttons) dependant on a partition scheme really irks me - but if the 2010 has no such hardware, and it's just the windows acer arcade software...
might be what i'm looking for -
hey ennoia, nice nickname!! [
] it's a greek word in case you didn't know!
anyway, if you visit http://www.acer.com/us/ , check out the Aspire 2010 series and you will be confused, for sure! Under the specifications, it mentions:
"Media console: Aspire Arcade button, console display, stop, five-way media controls (previous, next, play/pause, volume up, volume down)"
which could lead you to the wrong conclusion that the Aspire 2012 model comes with the Arcade stuff. However, if you take a look at the photo gallery (http://www.acer.com/APP/AKC/INTERNET/AACPubli.nsf/AllDocs/1E27C8C0DDAC41BE88256E7A00781639?OpenDocument) you will see that the arcade lcd screen / buttons are missing.
Moreover, a guy at Canada bought the machine and he confirmed that it doesn't come with arcade (only arcade software for windows is available, and the functionality of the media buttons is achieved via Fn + Key combinations).
Maybe this is only for the American version. If I learn more I'll let you know.
cheers []

This chassis is the sexiest laptop I have ever seen!
I am getting the 2012 w/9700. It is almost $1000 CDN less than a equiv Powerbook.
The 2020 is nice, but it is more $$$ in Canada than the PB.
Shame about the arcade on the 2012, it is listed as a feature on the Canada site too. -

you dont have to be stuck with fat32 for the arcade button to work.
i have an aspire2001 that i got last week. i converted the partitions to ntfs and everything still works fine.
follow the steps from this page
http://www.ntfs.com/quest3.htm
(there are other ways to convert like 3rd party programs)
the arcade software is on a different partition (i believe it is linux, according to some) that is invisible to windows (its just a small partition 8MB called ACER_SERVIC and a 94MB with no name. i think its just a buffer for arcade DVD etc..).
i have no "ii" "nn" keyboard problems that others have with this model. -
i'm really wondering why does the harddisk come in FAT32 and not NTFS. I've sent Acer an email but I haven't gotten a reply. Can anyone help explain this?
Thanks^^
