I have an Acer 2480. The sound works fine coming thru the speakers of the laptop. But when I plug in speakers...the laptop acknowledges that a 'jack has been plugged in' but there's no sound. Two days earlier I had the same setup and speakers and it worked just fine. I just plugged in a different set of speakers and they also don't work so it doesn't seem like its a speaker problem.
I thought it might be an internal device or driver problem so I did a 'system restore' to 1 week ago. After doing that it hasn't changed a thing...still nothing comes from the front audio (the one that shows a picture of a headphone) jack.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also if it is a faulty jack, how much would I expect it to cost to have it repaired? I believe I'm out of warranty.

It sounds like a faulty jack to me..As for the repair cost, you should call ACER and ask them. OR you can buy an external usb soundcard.. probably will be cheaper than sending the laptop to ACER for repair.
