    Dear Members

I bought an Acer 2920z and there is no audio. It is got RealteK High defination Audio, the driver version is the latest 6.0.1.5543. The Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium.

I bought this last week and returned it as it was not working. The new one seems to not work as well.

Can somebody please help, I have a feeling I am not doing something right. It is not on Mute.

    thanks
    Anil

    Go to control panel, sounds.

Make sure the speakers (realtek high definition) are set as default.

Have you tried re-installing the realtek drivers, sometimes this can do the trick.

I have a 2920 (not sure what difference the z makes), and the sound on mine is fine. The driver is 6.0.1.5485, which I notice is a bit earlier than the one on the Acer ftp site.

From pervious experience on other Acer laptops, it is important to stick to the ones off the Acer site otherwise things like on screen volume controls or the little volume control under the front don't happen.

Try this, go to Start, Run and type in dxdiag you should be able to test speakers, drivers, and sound from this program.

    Hope this helps......

    Hi Docholliday

I tried the Dxdiag, I got a report saying No problems with driver and hardware.

The system has got two audio devices one speaker and one realtek high def audio. The hardware is ok because if I put it on speakers it works. But never on Realtek.

The system came with Real tek as default, and had no sound at all, not even the windows start up sound.

Any further help to get this sorted...

    Thank you friends

You should just be selecting Speakers, which on mine have a subtitle "Realtek High Definition Audio". This is the internal audio on the 2920.

The other selection should be "Realtek Digital Output" and I assume this would somehow feed surround sound digitally to some external device. I'm to old and decrepit to know anything about this or to bother with it. Someone else might help!

    Dear Billaboard
Yes it is the realtek digital output that does not give any sound if used as default. I was worried because the system came with this as default setting and there was no sound. I was contemplating returning the laptop, assuming it to be a fault. So the realtek digital output only feed to external speakers, I will check this out and let u know
    thank you...

This is what I understand. Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong!

The digital output is a data stream that has to be fed to a decoder to produce surround sound. I don't use it, so I've never tried to find what socket it comes out of, but other machines I have seem to send this data out through a mini-jack socket as a fibre optic data feed.

This has nothing to do with speakers. You definitely need to select the "Speakers" output to hear anything through the internal speakers or external speakers plugged into the headphone jack.

Ok ... I have a practical suggestion , have you try out to enter headphone speakers in the headphones plug ?

If the headphone plug , got damaged ( mechanically ) , its possible to cutting off , the speakers .

Many people accidentally injure the headphone plug , by pulling the headphones cable , by an awkward manner .
