Hey guys, I bought the 3 year warranty when I initially purchased the 5672wlmi.

My question is, has anybody had to use it?

Because, it states in different ways that Acer will cover accidental damage, by repairs or by replacing the unit. But it also says, it won't cover damage due to negligence.

What is the difference between accident and negligence?

That's a good question - from a legal standpoint, and accident is something that occurs due to uncontrollable circumstances, while negligence is willful lack of care.

In example, if a truck ran me over, that's an accident (assuming I live and I didn't ask said truck to run me over ) while if I sped 19 miles per hour over the speed limit, it's a conscious disregard of traffic law.

Getting back to the Acer question, I don't have a clue how Acer would determine something to be due to an accident or negligence.

For the lifetime of the warranty; regardless of the accident it will be fixed.

Oh damn, I left my notebook in the middle of a crowded shopping centre, on a coffee table outside the store...where it was exposed and had a screensaver detailing the system specs...-negligence (scrap the screensaver bit)

Oh crap, knocked it off the table -accident

That's what I thought when i first read the details for the warranty. but now 1.5 years later i'm reading it again and i'm a little bit confused.

because, this would be the cheapest way to get a new laptop when the warranty is about to expire. "accidentally" drop the laptop down the stairs because your dog "accidentally" jumped in front of you.

I've never had to use the Acer warranty for any repairs or replacements, however my experience with FutureShop has been 100% excellent.

That would be one way; but it would be unethical to abuse a warranty program intentially. Your laptop would probably 99% be repaird and not replaced.

Does Acer offer warrantys when your initial 1 year is up?

I.E. it's 13 months since I purchased notebook, I now would like for it to be covered again?

I think it is possible, but you'll have to pay a premium, and not-so-cheap as those who renewed before your initial warranty is up.

Btw, if you send it for repair will Acer even ask why/how/when the incident happen? IDK about laptops but when my wireless router got shimbazzled by lightning i sent it back to Linksys (even though i heard they dont cover lightning) and they sent me back a new unit. :)
