I purchased an Acer Aspire 3050-1150 from Newegg for a Father's Day gift and now I'm going to upgrade the RAM. However, I've found some conflicting information online. Several sites say the 3050 can only take DDR2 533 and other sites say it will take DDR2 667.

I need to go out and buy the RAM today so I can give the notebook as a Father's Day gift tomorrow. I'm planning to put a total of 4GB in to max out the system (even if the 32-bit OS doesn't recognize all 4GB) ... I just need to know if I should stick to 533 or if I can go with 667.

Its likely that it will simply work with both types of memory. 667 Mhz can automatically downclock itself to 533 MHz if needed, so even if the notebook requires just one type, then if you go with 667 MHz RAM, you are covering yourself.

The aspire 3050 supports both memory speeds (533 and 667) despite what you might see on various websites, so the decision to get either one is up to you :) . As said before you can either use only the same speed modules or you can mix the speeds and the ram will clock itself down to the slower of the speeds.

it works fine with both speeds of RAM, you wont see a problem with either speed.
