    Hi All,
I have been trying to find info on the largest capacity drive I can fit to my Acer 3630 note book, (current size 60 GB)
I believe there may be issues with the Bios set up for larger drives.
I have found Western Digital scorpio ATA100 Drives both 250 and 320GB that will fit in the drive space and I am running a Phoenix NoteBios 4.0 release 6.0 and the Bios date is 20/03/06.

Does anyone have any experience of changing the drive on this model?

    Thanks

I do not believe there are any issues with the BIOS when installing larger HDDs, the main worry should be if it works in your laptop or not. The Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 is a great HDD and as well as getting more space you will also get a faster laptop due to the faster HDD. The 7k200 comes in many different sizes and I think the largest is the 250GB. If you would like a larger drive then you might have to settle for a lower RPM.

You should also look out for the cache as I think the 3680 only goes up to 8MB while a lot of HDDs are sold with 16MB caches. There are a couple people taking about upgrading the HDD of the 3680 in this thread but I can't find the exact page.

    Update!
I have went ahead with my planned upgrade and the task was a success.

I am now runnning with a 320gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue ATA IDE-Ultra/100 HD from Span.Com. I used Casper 5 software to create and transfer the drive image to the new drive via usb, then simply swapped the drives.

It couldnt have been more simple, the whole process took about an hour and a half, the longest part being the tranfer of the contents of the original drive to the new drive (55gb)

    Cheers

    :)
