I'm glad I found this forum, it is very informative.

I've owned an Aspire 3680 for a little over a year. No issues to speak of until last weekend, when I found that my 3680 that had been powered up and running fine, was powered off, no one had touched the machine. Assuming it went into hibernation or something I press the power button. Nothing. Press space bar, other keys, nothing happens. Pulled the AC adapter, checked to make sure the outlet was ok, everything seems fine. Battery charge light on the laptop is bright green, indicating it's charged. I pulled the battery out, reinserted, tried turning it on on battery power only, nothing. Pulled the battery out, kept it out, plugged the laptop into AC power, nothing.

Hard drive tests fine, I pulled it to test/read/backup.

One other oddity I've noticed, however it is not consistent, is that when I have the laptop unplugged from AC power, when I press the power button, occasionally the battery charge LED will flash a couple times orange. This flashing is not consistent when I press power in this situation however. Not sure if this is because the battery has depleted or what.

Anyone else out there have this problem? The way it's acting it seems to me there might be a problem with the battery, preventing powering up on battery power (which would be obvious), as well as preventing power up on AC power. Is that a "feature" of the 3680?

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

When the battery light flashes orange when you try an power it on its saying that the battery is flat; if it does it when the battery isn't inserted its usually a sign of the mainboard being faulty. Also be very careful of the power adaptor socket on the unit as these are known to be delicate and break easily; however if it does break acer will replace the power board to fix that (at least in the uk they do)

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

I've only ever noticed the battery LED flashing when I have AC power disconnected, attempting to power up solely on battery power. When I have the AC plugged in the battery LED is either solid orange or green, depending upon whether or not it is fully charged.

Perhaps I'll go ahead an give a new battery a shot. Hopefully I can return it if need be.

Its possible that the battery would be at fault; is sounds like the battery levels aren't being detected properly.

Never tried this but could you possible power up the laptop without the battery in it, with only the AC power plugged in?

The above remedy worked for my son's Asus s96j. He had left it on and went out for the evening and it went into hibernation. The only way to restore power, was to power it up with the AC plugged in and the battery removed. Good luck.

I can repeat your problem word for word for my Acer 3680. Any luck fixing your laptop? What did you end up finding out?
    Thanks
