I went outside to grill some hamburgers, I had my 3680 on my coffee table. Well we got a new puppy (6 weeks old). While I was outside, he woke up and tugged the wire hence pulling my laptop onto the floor :(

Now my screen, on the right side, has these red lines. When I flex the screen, they go away, or the whole screen flashes. I know its messed up, but my question is can I buy something like this and install it?

A friend and myself opened up the 3680 before to upgrade the processor, but now hes away at med school in the bahamas. How hard is it to replace the whole screen assembly?

I think it will be really hard.. You don't just replace a screen.. Maybe you could try and return it telling them that it has pixel errors.. That worked for me when i wanted a better lappy..

lol, there will no returning here. The only person who has ever worked on my Acer has been my friend Rob and myself. I've heard horror stories about sending it in for service, and I wouldnt anyways, because this is my fault and not a warranty issue.

Has anybody replaced their screen before? IIRC, when we replaced the processor, the screen came off the hinges and didnt seem that it was "as involved" as replacing the processor. Anybody?

ive only replaced a screen on an old travelmate.
    and found it easy.
check the connection as some are white or like an off pink color.

entire LCD assembly should not be too hard....

but first i'd dissassemble the LCD and see if anything may have just pulled loose a bit... you are gonna be inside the screen eventually...

and if you are considering an entire LCD replacement... you may as well poke around inside to see if you can save a buck

Ok I took out the 4 rubber screw covers, removed 4 screws for the LCD, but it wouldnt come completely off. Up at top, where the latch is, there are 2 more what appears to be screw holes, but they are covered by hard plastic. I cannot get to them. Anyway, from what I could see by popping off the parts that I was able to, there wasnt any damage to the LCD itself or any wires exposed.

Remember when I said the screen flickers if I move it? Well when it flickers the whole system freezes. Is this because its shorted out somewhere or could my problem be the inverter board?

it could even be the LCD cable where it connects to the motherboard...

 I think tonite after work Im going to disassemble the 3680 to see what damage has been done. If worse comes to worse, I have an extra working motherboard I bought on ebay. Hopefully its something minor....

good luck,, and i'll pray for a loose connection where the LCD data cable plugs into the MOBO..

i don't think a malfunctioning inverter would cause the system to halt/freeze/stutter.... so it's either something comming lose or could be an area of some part shorting out.....

    @ michacerboy..Good Luck buddy :)

At least you are honest and admit what happened with your Acer.

Not like some folks who have zero morals.

    Keep me posted :D

    Cheers,
