I have had my Acer Aspire 3680 for a long time, bought it new for $500 and it has been one of the best laptops I have owned.

I just upgraded to the latest bios and am planning on installing the T7200 processor in it. I have the Intel 943GML Chipset/i943 Calistoga.

I use it to capture high data rate video on a firewire 800 card. I want to increase the processor speed and write speeds. With this processor will I be able to upgrade to a 64bit OS? I also want to get an SSD for it. Which ones are compatible?

    Thanks!

    David Rankin

Yes, you can install 64bit OS as T7200 capable of 64bit, get a cheap SSD because your laptop is limited to SATA1 speed(1.5Gb/s) but SATA2 SSD also will work as these drives are backward compatible. I would recommend a Kingston ssdnow v100 64GB or a Kingston v+100 96GB.

    Thanks :)

Got the T7200 working. Much faster / cooler. Nice.

I have 2GB of PC2 4300 in it right now. What can I upgrade to? How much can the mobo handle? What is recommended?

    Thanks

If I recall correctly your chipset should be able to handle 4GB. I had that on my HP, HP said maximum of 2GB, but I used it with 4GB for several years after that.
