Well guys I’ve successfully upgraded from Celeron M520 to Core 2 Duo T5200. Below you’ll see the performance increase and temperature.

    M520 at idle temp @ 50c

M520 Speed test using Wprime. Temp at 62c right after it finished. This was after the third benchmark and the score is 124.68.

T5200 at idle temp @ 45c (Artic Silver 5 was applied)

T5200 Speed test. Temp at 62c. This was also after the third benchmark, but the score is significantly better.

Well it appears from the test that the T5200 had cooler temp at idle. However benchmarking seem to produce as much heat as its counter part the M520.

The major difference was the score that Wprime generated. The T5200 took only 55 seconds to finish the bench, while the M520 was at 125 seconds. Overall worth the upgrade because and price and performance.

Also interesting note; is Sisoft and CPUz detected my chipset as 940GML, but during the upgrade I looked at the chipset it says 943GML...

Thanks, was there an improvement on battery life?

How hard was it to get to the CPU, did you have remove the keyboard?

I haven't gotten around to test out the battery yet, however with the m520 I was able to browse the net, type up papers, and listen to music at the same time for about 2.5 to 3 hours. But I'll let you know how it goes, I'm hoping to get more when I test it out with the t5200.

The fact that this was my first laptop, and the first that I've disassembled. It wasn't that hard to get to the CPU. Its more of time consuming process. Yes I had to remove the keyboard. Bassically everything had came off just to get to the CPU. Litterly 99% of the parts came off. If you dissassembled any electronics parts before then it shouldn't be hard at all.

Pel- Did you modify any hardware settings in the bios? Or were you able to? Did you do anything besides swap the cpu?

This is Albert from the other forum and I'm still trying to figure out if my dimmness is something related to power settings...

I think I've also ruled out an inverter/ backlight problem. I opened the screen and it does not appear to be damaged. Still a dim screen despite all I've done.

There weren't any settings or any new settings to adjust. It was all the same settings. Yes all I did was just swap the CPU.

I'm able to adjust the brightness, but I do however have to adjust the brightness every time I restart or power up the computer. Before the swap I don't ever remembering having to do this, but w/e.

My suggestion would to check the connection again. Look at the pins making sure its not bent or any abnormalities. Go ahead and re-seat the connection again making sure its aligned and eyeball the orientation making sure its evenly snug.

Once then re-install Acer Launcher Manager. First remove it and then re-install vista or xp version depending on your OS.

If that doesn't work I would go ahead disassemble everything. Completely every thing and the completely build it back up. Watch out all the connections making sure their all connected. Thats all I have for you. If you have done all these please dis-regard. Good luck.
