I can't seemed to type very fast on my Acer 3680. It seems to skip keys randomly. I was wondering if anyone is having this problem or does Acer 3680 have a particular bad keyboard.

    Words Per Minute.

Honestly, at first, it needs some time to get used to as do all other laptop keyboards. After that, it was fine for me. I can type as fast as I do on the 3680 as I do on my dv6000t. So yeah, my keyboard itself seems fine. Just give it some time :p

i've noticed that the keyboards acer fit to their units will often need a good firm press of the key; a lot of users that gently tap the keys often have this trouble, the same may be true for you

Well, I returned it for a second one. The guy at the return desk said he had the same computer but did not have the problem. The problem seems to crop up when I type double characters like noodle. The second "o" tend to get stuck. I have 3 different laptops and none of them have this problem.

I check for Vista drivers and found none. I burned a new BIOS and it didn't fix the problem. I loaded a live distro of Linux and it had the same problem so it is not a windows driver issue.

Hopefully, the new computer will not have this issue.

By the way, Vista is truly terrible under 512 Mb of memory. With a low end machine like this, XP would have been better. After playing around with it, I remove it entirely (but restored it when I return the computer in case they care).

Yes, the keyboard is really sub-par. Ive had my 3680 for about a month and a half and my Z key popped off after about 2 weeks (mind you - I never use the Z key). Now my Q and W keys are loose and falling off. I, too, noticed the skipping keys phenomenon and thought it was solely my laptop. Im glad to hear Im not the only one who thought I had a crazy laptop, lol.

I bought the Acer 3 year extended warranty, Thank God! Im going to be calling them soon and getting this keyboard fixed

    OK,

I return the computer and exchange it for another Acer. I notice some differences from the previous computer.

    - This machine comes with a newer Bios.
    - The keyboard is still bad, but not as bad as the old one. I can actually type a full sentence.
    - The Acer Launcher actually goes away. Before, it would launch, display a window that it was installing stuff for hours until I kill the Launcher via task manager.
    - Vista is actually usable. The response is actually snappy. This mean there was something seriously wrong with the last Acer.
