I have an Acer 3680-2633, with upgraded Core 2 Duo CPU. In the last few weeks it has started making a loud buzzing or grinding sound when I turn it on. It lasts a few seconds, then goes away. Most of the time it goes away even before Windows starts to boot. I then experience no other problems. The sound seems to be coming from the left side, in the area where the vent is located. I think this is where the CPU fan is located. Is the fan dying? How long can I expect this to keep working?
