Well i got the New DC/USB power board today and installed it. Put everything back together and its still Dead. Could something else have been damaged. The old DC/USB board smelled burnt and it had a little smoke coming out by the board. Which led me to believe it had a short and burned up. Now I dont know what do do. Any suggestions to trouble shoot this? I allready got a now AC charger and battery so i know thats not it.

I dont know but when my ac board went bad it never smoked and wasnt burnt in any way. Im not saying you do, but I hope you dont have a toasted MB now.

When I took apart my 3680, if the keyboard cable was off just a tad bit or if the memory wasnt seated 100%, it wouldnt even turn on. I had quite a freak out moment when I got everything back together and pressed power and nothing. Went through my steps and then it started the second time I put it back together. Good Luck!

Yea i hope its not the MB. THe new charger i got has a green LED light on it. It stays green when just plugged in to the wall. When i plug in the other end to the computer it blinks. Any thoughts on this?

This is weird. My charger has a green LED too but it stays green, NEVER blinks. Actually I've never seen a laptop charger to blink, something isn't right here.

Edit: Maybe the problem is the battery, the blinking charger might mean the battery isn't charging so there is a good chance your laptop doesn't get powered. Try to start the laptop without the battery.

Ive tried to start it with and without the battery. The LED light on the charger is a solid green. As soon as its plugged into the computer it begins to blink. Maybe ill do some research on the charger and see what i can did up. Well the charger of course lookd generic and made in china..im not to hopefull about this

Ah ha! Key information here.... Ive heard horror stories about aftermarket or generic a/c adapters, up to and including exploding batteries and fires. A fried a/c power board is NOT out of the question.

This may be what killed the power board in the first place. Id replace it with a known adapter, I believe mine is "brite on" brand. 3.42amps.

The board got fried with the original adapter the computer came with. I ordered a new charger just to make sure it want the charger. The new Charger has the green LED on it. Ive been doing some reading and the popular opinion is the blinking light means there is a short somewhere. If thats the case im probably dead. Its a 500$ laptop and not worth putting in the shop. Problem is its my 7 yo daughters laptop and shes used to having her computer all the time. I have to do something. Id like to fix this one if i can just out of principle!!!!!!

Yes i do have the old (suspected fried) board. I plugged the AC charger into that loose board and the LED stays green on the charger. Im sure the new board isnt misaligned. Its a pretty straight forward plug into the motherboard. Ive also torn the whole thing down 2 times in hopes something was "loose"

I attached the charger to the mainboard and DC/USB board only...I was hoping to at least get the CPU fan moving or something to let me know power is getting to the mainboard. But its still dead. It seems almost certainly a MB issue.
