Just got my 3810 and want to do a clean install. Unfortunately Acer doesn't supply the WIN 7 OS. Which I new that but now I want to clean it up and do a fresh install. Can someone expalin how to do this? I have a memory stick. I don't feel I should pony up $20 for a disk from Acer.

    Thanks.

    PLEASE

bangert has answered your question, however I would add.

If you install a fresh windows 7 install by wiping the existing disk you will have a major cost/problem getting any warranty service out of Acer without paying them to restore their original installation.

Please check your laptop is 100% functional before doing anything
Please ensure you think through what license key you plan to use to activate your non-acer W7 disk (and assure yourself it is possible/legal)
Please use the acer restore application to burn the restore DVD's before you lose the original install. Some useful acer programmes /versions are not downloadable from the acer driver pages.
Please then either remove and retain the original HDD and replace with a new one or make a full disk image using e.g. paragon backup and restore before wiping the current disk. Either strategy will permit you to return the laptop for service as-was and if you swap the HDD's now /back then then you could return it as-was and WITHOUT all your valuable work/data/photos/music etc which will likely be wiped

You may appreciate this more later, or at least I wont feel obliged to console you :)

I use an 8 GB SD disk for my music, data, files, etc and that way, never have to worry about them getting lost if something happens to my HD.

I don't want to lose my existing WIN7 license, just want to clean up the drive and get rid of the non-essential stuff so she runs quick. I did make the recovery discs already.
