Hey my laptop just randomly turned itself off, I did place it down at an angle with the power chord in so I'm not sure if I have damaged the socket. The charging light is on when its plugged in. I've tried taking the battery out and just using the wire but it still won't turn on. Any suggestions? If not what's the best option for me to get the stuff on my hard drive?

    Thanks

Does it start with the battery in but without the power-cord connected?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you put the loptop down on an angle. If you put enough force on the power plug to bend it, you can cause a short between the power plug and the mainboard that can brick the notebook. On the other hand, you could have just broken the powerboard. This is probably worth a visit to your local tech shop. They can probably test it for you without a major cost.

If it is bricked, you can take out the hard drive and put it in an external case so that you can get access to the data from your new notebook.

    Nope nothing.

Yes that's what I meant however thinking back I had left the laptop on charge, on the high performance option without it set to sleep or hibernate when idle. I came back from going out and lifted the lid and it was the same as I left it. It felt really hot but I just kept using it, then after I finished, put it down and it went kaput..
