Can anyone give me a reply on this? I have to make a decision on my computer purchase by tonight. Thank you.

Asus' reputation with businesses is very good. My brother's company will not let them buy anything but an Asus laptop. They have a single account representative who handles the entire company's account - from ordering to service. It is a lot like my company did with Dell for so many years. He was able to talk the representative into ordering a U33JC when his old notebook bit the dust, even though it was not on his company's approved laptops. The U33JC is cutting edge technology for his company.
The 3820TG may be a niche machine afterall.

ASUS enjoys a better reputation for build quality than Acer.
Acer bucked its past build quality trends with the 3820TG, the way Infiniti did with its G35 sedan series and Hyundai with its Genesis sedan series.
However, unlike Infiniti and Hyundai, Acer has done a terrible job with spreading the word about the 3820TG and improving its reputation among consumers.
Acer's Sales and Marketing Departments should be replaced with professionals who understand the value of "striking while the iron is hot". -
so where are the links people? the first post just has nothing!

Ordered mine to Canada on Saturday.. taking the gamble that it can get through without duties/taxes. Though it will probably be too late for your purchase, I'll post a response when I get my laptop.
Anybody know how to track the package from PCHOME? -
No duties/taxes when I received mine and I believe a few other Canucks mentioned the same. Not sure about about the HST since i'm from Quebec.
You can use the tracking number from pchome via the canada post website - track. -
I ordered a third one for a friend of mine - and they received theirs on friday.
no taxes, no duties - it came to my house as i have been working from home these last few weeks. and the mail man said another pc home package to you .
but awesome that we aren't paying taxes or duties on it? is it under some agreement?
i got dinged 140 something for my hp envy from the USA
-
140 ain't so bad for a lappy - I ordered 2 6"X2" white parking light reflectors for my car at 2 bucks a piece plus 20 bucks shipping. When the package arrived they told me i had to pay 240 bucks duty/taxes .
-
Did they follow-up your order with a tracking number? I haven't seen/heard anything from them yet.
I don't think laptops, regardless of where they originated, get dinged for duties, but they should be taxed. Hopefully we are good to go in Canada. -
I ended up buying the 450 option with the YADI keyboard cover Sunday night
came up to be 30900 + 299 + 1910...
still hasn't processed my credit card stuff yet though.. weird that its taking so long. -
Use Google Chrome to auto translate the following pchome website:
https://ecvip.pchome.com.tw/
1> Click on "Check orders" tab.
2> Input your email and password you used/created when you placed your order. (enter the 6 digits in the last box and hit "determine")
3>You'll be redirected to a transaction records list page with all the details of your purchase.
4>Click on the "delivery status" link and copy the tracking number (starts with EE & ends with TW) found in the "delivery single number" section.
No need to use the ipost link next to the tracking number. You can copy paste the number in Canada Post tracking and it'll give you your shipment status. -
hmmm - 460m's are out and no bios update needed. Wonder if the i7-640m will also work on current bios?
-
I was thinking the same thing. All I've seen for sale so far are engineering samples, no OEM CPU's. I'm about to put an I5-540M OEM in mine.

looks like i got a 460 instead of a 450 on my i5 450 order...
. But the purchase still hasn't processed yet for me. Maybe because I used a credit card?
-
While you're in there, please see if you can find the clock generator chip and then post its ID in the OC thread.
I will be getting a 3810 US illuminated KB next week, so I will be taking mine apart again to get that info for the 3820TG-3022. -
I'll be sure to take a look while I'm there.
-
How do you know? I ordered the same unit on Saturday (shipped yesterday), I hope I'm as lucky as you.
*Edit*
I see in the invoice that it looks like they shipped out a 460 for me too!
*/Edit*
What's the biggest diff between the 460 and 450? Is there more OC potential with the 460? -
Aww, if I knew I would get the 460 for the same price as the 450 I would have ordered
I'm waiting for people to post their experiences with PChome and for the detailed guide someone said they would make. -
pchome seems pretty solid. My only question is how people have contacted them, and if they have any english speaking representatives.
-
And they're gone. (out of stock)
-
Sigh, i want this in canada.
-
Can anyone who's opened this thing up let us know how many mPCIe ports there are? Is it just one for the wifi, or is there somewhere we can sneak in another? I'd like to be able to hook up a Vidock type contraption using the mPCIe port to drive a 30" LCD at 2560x1600, but not if it means ripping out the wifi card.
-
I have a couple questions for people that have ordered from PCHome:
1) In step 5, where is the option to select your country?
2) In step 7, can you provide more details on which yellow button is for Paypal and how you got the ordering information form to accept a USA phone number, zip code, address, etc? Under subcategory "Receiving People," it states "Limited to the island of Taiwan, No PO boxes. (The answer to the first question may help answer this one.)
3) I recall reading in this thread that there is a specific time to order to get the best price, what is that window of time?
I appreciate the help, thanks.
Edit: Disregard questions 1 and 2, I wasn't on the global site. -
There is only one mPCIe port on the standard model. It houses the Wifi card. The 3G model has a second one installed for it. I think Computeruniverse in Germany has the 3G model for sale. Someone tried to solder a universal mPCIe into the spot where the 3G socket went but could not get it to communicate with the motherboard.

arent the prices high? i thought it would be around 900$ cad?
-
Wow, that's a big price increase.
-
28 900 Japanese yen = 356.80122 Canadian dollars
=
? Is it really that cheap to order from China? How much does eBay cost :S -
28900 TWD (Taiwan New Dollar) is ~$939CAD.
You had the currency and country wrong...
-
I just put my credit card away
stupid google
-
Prices look the same to me. Still looks like the best option is to order the i3 and drop in an i5 on your own....as long as you don't care about the warranty.
I'm desperately trying to figure out how to make this thing work with my 30" LCD...ready to pull the trigger, but I don't want to run more than one computer so it needs to work with my monitor. Can't believe there isn't even an express card slot for me to use a Vidock with
-
did microcenter sell out of the 4820TG's? i cant find it on their site anymore.
-
They are not back in-stock yet. Only in stores.
-
How big is the cooling difference in the 3820 and the 4820?
-
That would have been an expensive mistake!
-
Does anyone else have the PayPal 4002 error when trying to check out buying via PCHome? (and how to get past that?)
-
This was a good laugh. Someone thought a Taiwanese retailer would advertise their prices in Japanese yen.
Excuse me, but I have to go to the bank to exchange my US dollars for Indian rupees before I head to the local WalMart here in the USA! -
Looks like the American market has finally saturated. The activity on this thread has slowed considerably.

-
I think people have just given up hope of them being sold in the States. There's always ways to get things by other means but not worth the effort, time, expense or whatever else to most.
-
Or waiting for the broken one that was sent to be fixed by Acer =(
-
This.
I am waiting for a good deal on the 460M. When it reaches < 30k NTD I will buy. -
nah, i just bought mine after reading through all the hundreds of pages from this thread and the owner's lounge thread lol
looking forward to getting the order ASAP. -
What 460M? You mean to buy and install in your 3820TG?
-
Oh, just order the i5-430m+2GB for NTD30900 now and PCHome will give you a free upgrade to i5-460m...
Or you can order the i3-330m with 5470 for NTD24900 and receive a i3-370m with 5650 instead...
--
No, I wasn't kidding...
It says so in your shopping cart and many Taiwanese buyers have confirmed they received i3-370m or i5-460m machines as indicated.
-
Actually the shopping cart thing has been going on for quite some time now (showing up as 460m). The real test is when it shows up in your invoice, then you know you've struck gold
-
Sounds nice. But with my luck, I ain't trying that.
-
I received the same error msg . I had to borrow a friend paypal to order it .
Ordered i430m and received i460m version =] -
Free upgrade to 5650...surely that cant be right?
Tempting if so! -
I figured it out, it has this error because I only have an American Express linked to the account, yet when I test with my debit card (which is Visa) it allows it to process through. No clue why, but I'll have to weigh in on this since it'll affect my ability to have an extended warranty as I do not have a VISA or MC CC which offers such features.
Is squaretrade an option for overseas purchase? -
I am looking for a place to buy replacement batter for 4820TG, My understanding is that the 4820T, 3820T and 3820TG all have the same type of battery. Where can the 6 cell 66mah battery and the 9 cell 99mah battery be bought? I cant find a place anywhere, Please help.
