Thanks for clearing that up ,didn't know where that error was coming from . Yea no able to use my Amex kinda killed my chance to get 2yr warranty.
-
Doesn't it say Amex accepted? Anybody talk to paypal?

This thread has run it's course.

WOW! I just got my 3820TG, Core i5 460m, 5650, 640GB and it is really nice! The only thing is that I've basically spent my budget out and am starting to think I could have just got with the i3 370m deal so that I would have left over cash to purchase an SSD.
Anyone have the i3 370m that wants the juicy i5 460m? Or is anyone scared of ordering from Taiwan and wants to buy mine?
I've already upgraded it to matching 4GB DDR3 and English Windows 7 with all drivers installed and functioning 100%. The unit has no HDD clicking noises, no CPU whine, no FAN whirl, no screen problems, etc. (LOL! I almost just convinced myself to keep it.. what if I order a 370m and it has problems?)
I'm basically US$1095 in with the 4GB memory upgrade. -
can anyone show sources of confirmation that the Core i3 option w/ the 5470 will result in the i3 370/5650?
-
I called paypal since my AMEX was the only CC linked to my account.. they said "internal risk prevention" system... then nothing they can do... tough luck.... I created a new account to test during checkout w/ my Visa debit... the card isn't even verified and it'll allow it to process =/
-
Discussions in Taiwan, I see at least two people have successfully got the "deal", most people have gone with the i5 route.
????P???????? - Mobile01 ???? -
Make sure you register it and get confirmation from Acer that you have the warranty established like Bankergolfer did. That will make the unit more attractive to a US buyer.

Anyone who can actually read taiwaneese (or mandarian or whatever is on that site) does PCHome have a UMTS model for sale. I3 or I5 will do. If so, can you post the link?
Bronsky
-
It's just chinese... despite the different spoken dialects... it's mostly the same written, differences between simplified and traditional are minimal at best.
But to answer your question... no UMTS (3G).
Sucks that their Taiwan local version of the site, shopping.pchome.com.tw has the i5's as cheap as the i3's in the international site world.pchome.com.tw ... no love for outsiders

I have an opportunity to purchase the 3820TG-524G64n from Singapore with an i5-520m cpu.
Has anybody imported from Singapore?
Are there any issues I need to be aware of having it shipped from Singapore?
Is DHL the way to go?
Do I have to worry about customs or duties?
How does the 520m compare to the 460m? -
520 is slightly faster than the 460 and also includes onboard AES instructions set. From what i've heard, DHL is the best, most expensive, most reliable tracking option. As long as you avoid USPS, you won't get charged tax, and once it gets dropped off in the states, it'll be handed over to a local carrier regardless.
-
Who is selling to the US from Singapore? No one has yet shipped from there to the US but when I looked into it a few months ago, there seemed to be no problem. The nice thing about the Singapore unit is that it uses English W7 and a US/International keyboard. No modification necessary. If you do buy it and have no problem shipping it, please let us know as it would be nice to have an alternative to PCHome. Do they have any I7 models or 3G models available?
Bronsky
-
A limited number of I7s were sold earlier in the year to students but do not seem to now be available, even second hand.
I am buying the computer second hand, still new in box, from a third party, not a retailer. I have long had my eye on Singapore as a source for the very reasons you detail, but have been unable to locate any on line retailers.
As for 3G. I simply do not know. But wouldn't the most cost effective solution be one of those new pocket WiFi cards from Virgin? -
I almost bought an I7 unit from Firdouse when they had then in stock. They will ship to the US. I ordered the German unit instead becasue it cost almost $200 less.
I'm actually more interested in the extra PCIe slot than the 3G card.
It would be nice to have the 3G built in when you use it.
Good luck with your unit.

I have paypal linked to my AMEX card as well and could not use it to pay for an Acer 3820TG from PCHome. I linked a Visa debit card and I can get the transaction to the screen where I can complete the purchase. When I try to switch from the Visa to the Amex it says that Amex will not permit a paypal transaction in TWD. So it looks like Amex and paypal together are a no-go in Taiwan. Can anybody use their Paypal liked to an AMEX in Taiwan?
In any event, at least now I'm ready to pay for my new unit if my current one can't be fixed.

Bronsky - Samething happened to me when I tried to purchase mine. AMEX would not work in paypal and so I had to use VISA.
Sorry to hear about your tg
If it's not salvageable, do you still get to keep it? Might come in handy for spare parts down the line when you get your replacement unit.
-
Yea ... my part of the claim was minor compared to the 30 sample bottles that broke. They are worth $1,500 a piece, considering the cost of the hydropunch rental, temporary monitoring point development and consultant time. The insurance carrier just paid my claim to be done with it. They doin't care about my unit so I can keep it for parts if I can get it working again.

Anybody notice that the I5-560M is available from PCHome?
Bronsky
-
No, didn't notice the I5-560M was available on pchome.
But just finished to order one I5-450 M (written 460M in the invoice, maybe ?)
Else, do i need a power converter ? Because i looked and see everything is running 110 V in Taiwan. -
So far, it's only available in the 4820TG.
On your 450M, I think it will come with a US converter for the cord.
Bronsky
-
the cord was a standard North American when i got mine from PCHOME no convereter necessary, plug and play
-
Thanks for the correction.

Okay ... those of you who have had a unit shipped from China, how long did it take from China to the internatioanl Hub in the US. I sent my motherboard to China on Monday and it left New York at 9:30 this morning. How long before they have it in China - Thursday or Friday?
Bronsky
-
Only 2-3 Business Days!
Thursday Night - ORDERED
Friday Night - PROCESSED
Saturday Morning - SHIPPED CHINA AIR
Sunday Morning - ARRIVE JFK / US CUSTOMS
Monday Morning - RELEASED TO USPS
Tuesday @ Noon - AT MY DOOR IN FLORIDA! -
I'm planning on ordering a 3820TG from PCHome...
I want to make sure I get that free 460 upgrade
...
Which model did you guys order, who got the free upgrade?
The 430 or 450?
Thanks in advance. -
For me, it was for the 450 (460 in the invoice then). Don't know if it's working with the 430.
Else, did someone get the status 'Inbound Into Customs' for USPS ? -
yup. customs usually takes a few hours before it leaves just because so much stuff has to go through there. I ordered the 450 and got the 460 as well
quite amazing how taiwan post and usps can share tracking numbers seemlessly.
-
Can you link me to the EXACT laptop you bought from PCHome? Thank you

How long did it take you guys to get past this? -

-
Thanks ed21x!

I was very interested in the 3820TG but did not like the price difference with the 4820TG sold here in the US. However, a friend offered for his parents (who were currently in Hong Kong) to find the laptop and it seems as though they have found the 3820TG w/ an HD5650. I don't know all the info but was told the 3820TG w/ an i3, HD5650, 2gigs of RAM, 250gig HD would be ~$700. I'm still waiting to here back on the price for an i5 and want to know where they are buying it from but they do not come back until October so I still have time.
-
Anyone else order the 430m and receive the 460m?
-
If you're referring to the one available in amazon, it doesn't have the ATI 4650 which is the only reasoning of ordering from PCHome in Taiwan, closest thing we have here in the US if you can find in stock is a 4820tg which is notably different
-
from the looks of it, they only have the 460 to give. Not sure why they are offering it for a range of prices. Wish i had ordered the 430! extra money for peripherals!
-
I think I know how to get the 3820TG into america. see with my current luck if i order one from taiwan 3 weeks later it will be sold in the united states for 400 dollars cheaper. so problem solved.
-
I paid 1060 shipped from pchome for the i5-460. Based on the 4820tg prices, I'd imagine a 900-950 price point if it ever came over here.
Even if it comes to america. Your not going to get one of these things for less than 900. If you do, please let us know.
as an Appleusr, you gotta appreciate the fact that 1060 is ridiculous for such power and portability. -
Funny ... I thought the same thing when i ordered my unit from Germany. I swore that a week after it arrived, the 3820TG would show up everywhere. As it turns out, I was close. A couple of days after I ordered my 3820TG, the 4820TG appeared on the Acer site and soon after in Microcenter.

Just purchased a 3820TG from PC Home
.
Crossing my fingers that the i5 430 I purchased shows up as an i5 460
.

Best of luck with that ... let us know how it shakes out.

Thanks!!
If I get the 430 I will cut my wrists. -
waiting for my new 3820tg to arrive today
bought it from Canada on sale for $699 but with coupons got another $80 from staples. So in total $619 for this awesome machine, pretty good bang for the bucke EH!
-
the 3820TG comes with 2 different video cards. the 3820TG in america/canada does not have the 5650 video card. that is why people are ordering them from taiwan. its still a great machine, it just doesnt have the kicken video card
-
Ya thats the downer! also I think some are able to get the newer i5 460 instead of the 430?...oh wells I think for the price I got it for, its the best available on the market right now in my area in terms of price/performance!
-
i think your right. for that price you cant pick up a better machine. Also since both the video card and the cpu have seperate cooling systems you should be able to squeeze alot out of that machine in terms of overclocking
-
Can anyone help me out here?
I ordered via paypal with a Visa...
PC Home order status now says:
PAYPAL
(Authorization failed) -
Call your credit card company first. See if they have flagged the purchase as a possible identity fraud problem. I had that issue when I first tried to order my 3820TG from Computeruniverse in Germany. The card was declined and AMEX froze my credit. I called soon after and spoke to a representative who informed me that the purchase triggered an internal fraud alert. It was a simple matter to have the authorization cleared and to redo the transaction.
The only other thing I can think of is that your issuing bank for the Visa does not permit conversion to New Taiwan Dollars. Either way, you probably need to call the customer service number on the card.
Look on the bright side ... at least you don't have to cut your wrists.

My credit card company says everything went through OK.
Paypal says everything went through OK.
But PC Home's order status says Paypal Authorization Failed. rofl...
LOL true...
