I'm really interested in this as well.

If CenDirect doesn't come through, what's the next best Canadian retailer for US buyers?
-
Huh. On my CenDirect order status page it says my ETA is 9/30. Does everyone else's order page says 10/04?
-
There were supposto be 10 units in Toronto as of yesterday. You might jsut have gotten lucky. U in the midwest or great lakes area?

-
San Diego. That might be my ETA to be shipped. The ETA others got on the phone could have been ETA to arrival of package? Damn my lack of Canadian cell service!
-

I emailed them and they said they would secure stock from the first available warehouse. My order is currently placed with the 9/30 ETA warehouse in Toronto.
-
Hmmm.. they told me the Toronto warehouse has an ETA of 10/4.
I hope it's 9/30 afterall! -
MemoryDepot.com i think...
I spoke with two USPS agents over the phone... both told me there are ZERO fees for importing a package into the USA. The fees only apply when you mail something OUT of the USA and into another country. -
So CenDirect is the real deal?
-
I just found something interesting.
This is the i3+5650
AS3820TG-7360 W7HP64B ENG/FR CORE I3-370M
LX.PV102.288
This is the i5+5470
AS3820TG-3022 W7HP ENG/FR I5-450M 4G
LX.PTB02.190
What is this?
AS3820TG-7945 W7HP EN/FN I5-460M 4G
LX.PTB02.235
All the info in regards to it is not solid, just a few guesses, hmmm, i5 + 5650 maybe? -
fuzzielitlpanda Notebook Consultant
yah i5 + 5650 is my guess. where did you find that part number?
-
if that's the case i5 +5650 please post the cendirect link, if they ship to usa that is.
-
Where / how do you find this awesome info?
-
http://ec.synnex.ca/vendors/ACER.html
Search AS3820TG-7945 -
I was hoping that wasn't his source, since we'd need a synnex account to view more info lol
.
-
Sounds promising though. I'll keep my fingers crossed. If it's a 5650, I'm returning my inferior 3820TG-3022 (staples.ca 5470).
-
i ordered from cendirect monday morning, was hoping to get in on the supposed shipment they were getting on the 27th or 30th, but i got the 10-4 eta.
there realtime stock checker kind of sucks, still doesn't show anything from the 27th.
i'll wait to see if they'll ship something 9-30, if it doesn't i'll try to ask for 1-day shipping upgrade and pay the difference. If not allowed, I might just cancel.
i can't wait till 10-4, i'm flying out next weekend.
I really wanted this laptop too, might have to settle for ASUS U35JC-A1, which sucks cause i just missed a sale for it.
at least they answer emails promptly. -

i have access to the US synnex system and found nothing on the 3820TG. Looks like a Canada only option at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it released in the US along with the i3 version. -
What is this?
AS3820TG-7945 W7HP EN/FN I5-460M 4G

Sadly, 5470 guys. -
Always the bearer of bad news.
Can't complain too much. I'm happy to have a North American source for the 3820TG/HD 5650.

-
That's dumb... why wouldn't they put the 5470 with the I3-370M and the 5650 with the I5-460M... The I5 probably also has bluetooth but the I3 model doesn't... boo
-
Oh man, I never even thought about that. Good thing I don't care too strongly about Bluetooth. I could also salvage the PCIe cards from my current laptop if it came down to that.
-
Well I purchased my 3820TG-3022 (I5-430M + 5740 + bluetooth) from staples.ca. Got it for just under $640 CDN. I had to weigh whether i game enough to spend the extra $150 CDN for the 5650.
Few thing I don't like about the 3820TG-3022 is:
1. gets really hot after awhile running on discrete graphics
2. cannot output though HDMI in integrated graphics mode, i don't think this is the case with ati switchable graphics but not the case with nvidia optimus
3. no e-sata or expresscard slot
Add 2-3 and with the 5650 I would be willing to pay $1000 for this laptop. It would be kicking butt for sure! -
I'm getting my 3820TG i3/5650 for a smidge under $800 USD. I can get an i5 for well under $200, and probably an i7 for under $250. Not to mention the profit from whatever I sell the i3 at. I'm very pleased.
The cooling won't be an issue with me (the 5650 is apparently a cool card).
I have no idea if I'll have the same issue with HDMI. I'll keep my eye out.
And I don't really care about ESata or ExpressCard. Bluetooth would be nice, but I can deal without it, or maybe pop in the card I already have. -
Hoh, with a 5740 I'd not be surprised that it runs hot. In the likely event that you made a typo, though, the 5470 shouldn't run hot at all. The 5650 in mine stays <70C.
-
I wonder if they'll come out with the 3820TG with 5850 2GB VRAM... doesn't that explain the bios update for the video memory increase? haha
-
No ... the 6000 series is being anounced on October 12th. That is my guess for the 2GB VRAm support.
-
I just saw the 4820TG core i5-460m/5650 on amazon.com selling for 800$ Amazon.com: Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-7805 14-Inch HD Display Laptop (Black Brushed Aluminum): Gateway
It was listed on amazon on 26th September, maybe this indicates that the 3820TG will be available shortly.....*fingers crossed* -
The I3-370M/HD5650 is available to North America from a number of Canadian sources. I don't know how much more available you need this to be. Some better CPUs would be nice but I would be buying an I3 and putting my I5 in there anyway.

The problem is that I am from Malta(in Europe) and I found a local retailer who gets his stock from USA. I told him that they are available in Canada at the moment but he told me he can only get stock from USA =[
-
I guess it's the 4820TG for you. I don't expect to see the 3820TG here in the States anytime soon. You could always order a German model from Computeruniverse in the EU and change the KB & OS.

Hi
new user so forgive me for being ignorant
Just wondering, what advantages does the Acer 3820TG have over the Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-7805 besides smaller screen?
Thanks a bunch -
According to many users the 3820TG has a much better cooling since it does not have an optical drive which also makes it even lighter. Otherwise they're pretty much the same thing
-
Are the processors not soldered on this laptop? -
The full powered Arrandale processors are normally mounted in a PGA 988 socket and are not soldered in a BGA mount. They are changable and upgradable. I have already upgraded an I5-450M to an I5-540M CPU in my 3820TG. Just be aware that upgrading the processor probably voids your warranty.
You actually have to remove the warranty stickers when you do it.

Still waiting to hear from someone in the US who got a Canadian HD 5650 unit. Also interested in hearing from anyone who gets one of these units as to the ability to run SetFSB.
Bronsky
-
Interesting, did not know that so is that why everyone is going for the i3 model instead of the i5 with the lower vid card?
-
You mean the "higher" VID card. The GPU is not interchangable. Only the CPU processor. A lower CPU can be upgraded, a lower VID card can not (not without a factory at your disposal)
.

Or some skill/tools. The guy desoldering Core Solo CPU's and soldering in Core2 Duo's into the Sony UX series has got these. I assume the motherboards are the same and someone could pay someone else to do this conversion. You'd likely be a few hundred in the hole just from the person's labor charge though, plus cost of parts.
-
Not to be rude but I think this is a bunch of hooey, Is there not enough business people in the US to make a deal to stock a warehouse with some of these laptops.
On a side note, If Im just missing it or what but An in-depth review with high rez screen shots would kinda be nice. -
If the bios doesn't support the more powerful GPU it may be all for naught.

I sent an email to Cendirect asking if all duties were paid in advance or if it was something I would have to pay upon receipt. I imagine they would know if there would be additional fees if they frequently ship to the US.
Edit: I was hoping to get a definitive answer but on the plus side they have ridiculously fast email responses:
"All Cendirect adds to the price of export orders to the US is a $60.00 shipping and insurance fee.
We do not beleive there is any duty on notebooks but, since we are not familiar with customs and duty regulations in your country, we would suggest that you contact a US-based customs broker or the US customs service for a definitive answer to that question.
Please let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with." -
I placed my order for the 3820TG 4 days ago, and I called in and asked as to when cendirect would receive their units. Apparently, the timeframe for when they are ready to be shipped out is within October 4th to the 12th.
Oh, btw, I live in canada and he said I would be first in queue. I'm not sure if that implies that canadian customers are prioritized when it comes to queue because I'm pretty sure some of the people in here placed their order before mine, so I can't see how I'd be the next one in queue. -
I was just informed that if you order this laptop from cendirect at the current $775 price, it will ship asap from their Guelph warehouse. They have 4 laptops in stock NOW. First come first serve.
-
wasn't it 745 before?!?! wut a scam..
-
Just wait the few days heh
-
hehe I just feel sorry for the people who buy it at 775 without knowing it will change to 745
-
It appears there is 4 units in stock at a supplier in Guelph.

This is nice to know; time is worth less to me than money so I will definitely wait.
