Gonna stop replying as edits to my first post.
If you buy from CenDirect, don't create an account BEFORE purchasing from your shopping cart. Keep browsing as a guest, then put in all your information and create an account as you purchase. That lets me keep the $60 shipping. Of course, I haven't pulled the trigger yet (damn banks being closed on weekends) but I'll report back with status on Monday.

Whoa, cendirect ships to the USA?!
Ordering one now... lol -

"International Orders, Terms - All orders destined for shipment outside of Canada default to a standard $120.00 S&H charge. While this will cover most average orders, it will not be sufficient for all orders.
Only if your destination`s delivery charges exceed $120.00 will you be notified by email before your order is processed. Approval of S&H surcharges by email is required before CENDIRECT.com will process your order.
International Orders are shipped free of Canadian taxes but customers are responsible to the taxation authorities of their country for any taxes and/or duties assessed at the port of entry."
So which is it, $60 or $120??
When i'm at the "place your order" screen, shipping shows as $60 still.. $120 is no where.
apowers, where do you get the $120 charge? can you screen shot and post it?
Guess i'll call them tomorrow morning. -
I'd honestly wait, I am sure there will be ALOT more retailers who will have them on their site, and they'll have much more info. From what it seems, they won't even receive their units til at least the 1st of October, might as well wait a day or two to see if any other retailers will carry it.
-
CenDirect comes with an i3-370 thought?
-
-
CenDirect has 10 units incoming tomorrow. Is $60 for shipping from Canada > US a huge ripoff? UPS says ~$40 for Toronto > San Diego so it's not too terrible. What could I gain by waiting?
-
when will a Canada retailer that ships to USA get at least an i5-450m?
-
But with direct shipping to the US, if I need a replacement for my 3820TG it looks like I can get the I3 and swap in the I5-540M. This is great.

This is a bit where I'm at. I'm not going to order from Taiwan, but I'll be heading to the Great White Tundra (e.g. Canada) in a few weeks. I've been furiously debating the i3-370 Acer, or the ASUS u35jc. Is the collective wisdom of this thread that the Acer is the better buy?
About the only thing that's really making me lean toward the ASUS is that the Acer appears to require a lot of work up front in regards to customization, BIOS editing, and GPU dashboard work to bring it up to its actual potential. Is this an accurate assessment, or not?
Or, as the valuable information regarding modification/optimization is now spread out over 500 or so pages of the Tweaks and Tips thread, is it possible to collect the salient bits somewhere so as to make the acquired wisdom a bit more accessible? -

im confused, in bronsky's post above the word " 3820TG " is a link and when clicked it opens to the amazon page showing an Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-5246 13.3-Inch HD Laptop (Black Brushed Aluminum) for $699 sold by compusa with a note that says Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S.
so is this what everyone has been waiting for? -
The links with dotted lines are forum generated links, which automatically link popular models. The links with a solid line are links the poster puts themselves.
The model we're currently discussing is the AS3820TG-7360, a Canadian only model with an i3 processor and the 5650, which retails at an MSRP of $749 CDN. -
I'm rollin', they appearin' slowly but steadily

Anitec doesn't ship to the US and the other one is expensive. ;\
Looks like I'm still covered though - I'll be ordering one of the 10 CenDirect units incoming to Toronto in the morning, and hopefully get it here by the end of this week.
All this talk about potential 6xxx cards has me a bit miffed... why don't I get any consumer peace of mind?! Oh, right, it's because I'm buying a laptop. -
Such is life where technology grows insanely fast......
-
Just received my $1040 refund from PC Home...
*cheer*
Gonna order the i3 370 from cendirect now! -
Those 10 units won't last long. Luckily, looks like the Vancouver store gets 150 units on the 1st.
Bronsky -
Cendirect seems like a reputable site... great price on the 3820TG... shipping at $60 seems fair... hmmmmm
Any chance other canadian sites will offer free shipping to the USA? -
So im guessing this thing is never coming to the United States
-
Screw it, just placed my order. I've waited long enough lol.
If my laptop doesn't ship out today/tomorrow from their Toronto warehouse, i'm gonna cancel and go with Memory Depot. They will get their laptops in the 2nd week of October but they offer Next Day Business shipping via UPS... will come out to $805 total. -
Yar! I have to wait until the end of the day to order. Looks like I'm going to keep CenDirect on refresh, watching those Toronto units count down maddeningly.
-
-
I think we wll eventually see US retailers with them.
Bronsky -
Ahh! Just pulled the trigger with CenDirect. I'm so excited.
I'm a little nervous that the $60 charge will change to a $120 charge, but so far it seems safe. It's not in stock at this very moment, so maybe I can call and ask them to cancel tomorrow if anything changes.
I made the decision that when I'm taking notes in class, my wifi will be off, so I'll have a lot more battery life to play with. This means I may consider adding an i7 later on down the line instead of just an i5. -
I was told the cancellation process is very easy and it can be done anytime as long as the laptop isn't being prepared for shipment.
One thing i'm concerned about is any taxes/fees/duties we'll have to pay when we get the laptop... -
i think the USA will be getting them next. If they are shipping to north america then it wouldnt make sense to not sell in the usa and just canada. its just the wait.

I see in your sig that you have the 4820TG. May I ask why you decided to get the 3820TG? -
.
-
I don't know if I should pull the trigger for the 3820tg i3 from Canada or just wait a few more weeks in hope that Acer will release it in the US with the 3820tg...
-
Can someone post some links of where to actualy buy these things?
Of people who post internationally -
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, defect product for me. The windows installation works 1 out of 3. And when it's completed, all the services crash the one after another.
Does someone know how to fill a refund query for pchome ? (try the refund query on their website, got a message displayed in chinese, gonna try to do it tomorrow with a teamate speaking chinese).
And where can i find their email address ?
Last thing, the 7 days return policy starts at the delivery, right ?
Else, the pc looked great ! Too bad, it wasn't the good one for me. -

Is $700 CAD a good price for a 3820TG with the following specs? Im thinking of taking a road trip to canada, and bringing it back with me. Also can I claim duty free, and tax free since I am bringing it back to the USA and am a USA citizen?

The weird thing is that the iso given in this forum was not working for me, i needed to download another.
Anyway, after download + modification bootsect (because i was creating the bootable key from a 32 bit pc) + remove of one the ram (didn't work with 2), the installation was successful. But few seconds after, all the services (lan, explorer.exe, ...) crashed until a freeze.
After several windows reinstalls (1 out 3 successfull), i can say something is definitely wrong in the hardware. Everything is crashing few seconds after. -

Check this out: New Acer Aspire TimelineX Laptops - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
But it looks like, there is no 3820TG... -
Why change bootsect when creating bootkey on 32 bit pc?
You can create bootable key and install 64 bit ISO image install files to USB, all on 32 bit.
This method always works great:
The steps for preparing the USB Disk via cmd.exe
1. Diskpart
2. List Disk
3. Select Disk 1 (Replace 1 with number reflecting your USB Drive)
4. clean
5. create partition primary
6. active
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign
Now, a drive letter reflecting the drive should appear.
Mount ISO of 64 bit OS. (I use alcohol 120)
Copy the bits from the mounted DVD to the USB Stick.
If you get errors along the way, simply remove the drive and repeat the process. -
It does seen that you have a hardware issue, however.

So, how many Canadian units have been ordered so far? Any US buyers. Let us know if there are any issues with cross-border shipping. If my mobo can't be repaired, I am ordering one of these the next day.
Bronsky -
Cendirect still hasn't updated - 10 units were supposed to have arrived in Toronto on Monday. I ordered late Monday afternoon (after they closed in EST-land) and haven't heard anything yet. I emailed to ask and will report back when I get info.

Also, I was hoping that stock coming in 9/27 meant that it would ship today or tomorrow. :/ -

Got an email from my rep at CenDirect as well. $60 is enough to cover shipping/insurance/custom fees to New York
One thing I am concerned about is any duty fees I have to pay once it reaches my hands. Its being shipped via Canada Post, so it will handed off to the USPS when it reaches the states. Anyone familiar with USPS Canada to US duty fees, if any?
My rep told me the ETA is Oct 4th as well. -

I'm glad you were able to get the $60. It looks like they are based on the Eastern Side of Canada, so I'm not surprised. I really hope there are no extra fees associated with the purchase.
