I called Cendirect and LU before ordering. Cendirect was very helpful and told me that the online stock information is not always accurate. LU told me when they could get it by, and they shipped as promised. One negative: I selected 3 day UPS shipping from LU, but they used UPS standard (1 extra day), which LU blamed on a website glitch. Positive: LU website also prices in USD, which is helpful since many credit cards charge a 3% foreign currency charge. -
Thanks. I did call everyone and all were out of stock until next week at the earliest. I ordered from PCHome.
Hopefully all will be well.

Edit: Funny ... less than an hour after I ordered from PCHome, Cendirect circulated a notice that they have units in stock. This kind of stuff happens to me all the time.

OMG now Canada gets these in stock?!??!?! where the hell was this 3 months ago, i would've taken a $750CAD 3820tg over my $899USD 4820tg..that I had to go to the US to buy
-
Any word when they're gonna have an i5-4x0m model for sale in North America (USA or Canada)?
-
Looks like PCHome doesn't ship over the weekend. Dam ... got my order in too late on Friday (Dam you Wachovia!!) so I've lost the weekend travel time. Too bad. I'm getting busy and can use my replacement unit ATM.
Bronsky
Edit: Maybe PCHome did me a favor. Someone on the 3820TG owners site is reporting that Acer will no longer register Taiwaneese units in the US for warranty purposes. This makes sense now that it has units being distributed to North American retailers. I emailed PCHome and asked that my order be cancelled if it has not shipped. It is still showing its status as not shipped. As soon as I get confirmation, I'll order one from Canada.
Further Edit: Robs TV says that the OP had failed to follow the proper procedure to by registering on-line first and waiting for the email response from Acer and then the warranty confirmation. -
Received my 3820tg from LU on Monday but was not home to play around with it until this weekend! It is a nice laptop and I like it much more than the u35jc-a1 that I recommended for my girlfriend. The screen is definitely nicer than on the asus, especially the viewing angles. I checked my screen type and I have an LG panel and I do think the panel is very nice. The only issues I have right now for the laptop is the keyboard (bought a US replacement which will hopefully arrive this week) and an imperfection on the touchpad. It is in the bottom left side of touchpad and is basically a noticeable bump when using the touchpad. Can anything be done with this bump?

Is there a store in Vancouver that I can buy a 3820 with the i3 and 5650?
I will be in vancouver in November for almost a week, and would like to bring one back to the USA. -
NCIX might have it. You'll have to contact them though. I believe MemoryExpress is another BC located dealer.

I thought it was just dirt on the touchpad but scraping it wouldn't remove it. I guess it's not a huge issue but it is just annoying to get this new laptop and have a small annoyance for which nothing can be done.

Hmm..Acer keeps releasing more and more units, reviews come up (most recently: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-3820TG-Subnotebook-i5-HD5650.38666.0.html), and its popularity is skyrocketing...yet, there is no U.S. store that carries the 3820TG with an i5 yet. WHYYYY Acer, WHYYY??
EDIT: Can anyone tell me if this one is the TG: http://www.overstock.com/Electronic...-DF11-98FF-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA#none ? -

Hey everyone
I just picked up 3 of the i5-460M with the ATI HD 5650 in Hong Kong. I'm heading back to Vancouver, Canada on the 28th.
Here are the specs:
i5-460M = 2.53ghz turbo boost 2.8ghz
2GB DDR3 1033
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
500GB HDD 5400 RPM
Bluetooth 3.0
LED backlight LCD
6 cell li-ion battery
window 7 home premium 64 bit
1 year international warranty
3 yrs Hong Kong warranty(not sure if that's useful)
bought them for $950 US but not sure how much duties will cost bringing back into Canada.
I'll let you know on the 28th when i get back
let me know if you are interested in purchasing one. Local purchase only in Vancouver (face-face)
email me: [email protected]
Cheers

grrr that sucks, i need a good solid cheap price on a 3820tg to get it stateside in the US....
id prefer a i5 version but will probably have to settle with the i3 and just do a processor upgrade. -
Hmm, if there was an i5 option with 2GB of RAM, vs a i3 chip with 4GB of RAM somewhere in Canada
-
Is there any reason for PCHome in Taiwan charging so much more than retailers in Canada? I can't imagine that the Bluetooth chip (which comes with models sold by PCHome) would add $200 in cost to a laptop.
-
For those who ordered from LU Computers, do they respond to E-mails? I sent them an e-mail on Saturday asking if they are able to ship to Australia. I haven't heard from them since.
-
Hmm, tempted to pull the trigger tonight but the fact that Sandy Bridge is releasing early January is still holding me back. Supposedly 10-20% faster clock for clock, plus better power optimization
-
When was the 3820TG available for purchase after the i3/i5/i7 releases in January 2010? I would imagine that the 3820TG successor would have similar timelines. -

"how many months after introduction will there be a decent 13" unit after all the major bugs and issues have been ironed out"?
-
Okay ... here's my dilemma.
3820TG PCHome $875 US shipped.
BT, Silver, I3-370M/HD5650 (no idea which Mfg display ATM)
3820TG Cendirect $890 CN shipped ($120 shipping?)
No BT, Black, I3-370M/HD5650 (no idea which display - anybody get one of these recently).
3820TG Lu Computers $760 US shipped (3day UPS)
No BT, Black, I3-370M/HD5650 (LG display)
I would like a silver unit but don't want to pay an extra $115 for the silver color. BT would be nice as well. I don't see any other advantage to the PCHome model.
I would love to know which displays are being shipped with the Cendirect and PCHome units. Has anyone gotten an I3 lately from PCHome? Has anyone gotten an I3 from Cendirect out of this new batch? Would love to know what they are. Those of you who have an LG display, could you let me know what you think of it after using it for awhile? Has anyone tried using a color profile to balance the display. I have a hard time believing that the LG display is not a great one.
Thanks ... any information would be helpful.
Bronsky -
Don't you already have a spare display in case you are not thrilled with the LG? Being black would also make it easier to swap with old display. -
. I would have to take apart the case anyway since the aluminum cover on my current unit has some chemical staining.
I think I'm going with the Lu computers but I have to stress over the decision for awhile longer.I think I just need a voice of reason. I hate making these decisions.
Bronsky -
Also, LG display is inferior? -
@Bronsky
I like the LG display from LU computers. It is worlds better then the display I had on my AS1410 (not sure what brand that was). The viewing angles are pretty good and the black levels are better then most of the other laptops I have played with in its price range. I do find myself wishing the colors were a little more vibrant at times* but I haven't given myself the time to mess around with the display settings yet.
*Mostly while playing Starcraft
Edit:
As for pricing I received mine for $750 USD shipped + $22 (3%) Visa foreign transaction fee. -
You can't change the bclk, but on the unlocked models you can change the multiplier -

Ordered from LU ... thanks for all your help. Final Price, $753.59. I wired the payment in Canadian $$. My bank stuck it to me on the exchange rate and paid .99CN instead of 1.03CN - Bastages! -
Bronsky so which place is the best to buy from (Canada) again? Why did your last 2 get returned? And is the i3-370 able to safely OC to 2.9 ghz?
-
I'll let you know about the OC when I get my unit.

I hate to think what dealing with them would be like if you have problems with your notebook. -

Edit: BTW, PCHome refund came in 2 days with no problem.
Update: Ordered my new unit from Lu Computers yesterday, made bank transfer yesterday. Lu confirmed it today and indicated that my unit will ship this afternoon. It will probably be here over the weekend and delivered on Monday. It will be nice to have a 3820TG again. This 11.6" display is just a bit too small for everyday use.

hi everyone,
I not talking often in this forum ( but I follow it a lot)
For those who interested for the staples CANADA version updated of the 3820TG , the 3820tg-7945 is available in store:
The spec is a disapointment for some who want the 5650 ATI card, they just update the processor that it
here I have a picture of the spec (sorry, no time to take it out of the box)

I thought I would share my results as this thread has been very useful in helping me make my decision to purchase the 3820tg-7360. I picked one up from Canada Computers earlier this week for $729 and I must say I am extremely impressed with the unit.
Mine also came with the LGD023F panel - I don't know what the AUO panel looked like so I can't comment but I'm not seeing any issues with pixel grain, etc.
I'm not an expert user of SETFSB but I was able to OC the CPU from 2.4 to 3.01Ghz without breaking a sweat (I just used the hex value of 96 instead of 99 when changing the 3 registers...if I used the slider the computer would crash).
Also, GPU-wise, I could take it to 675 core and 1000 memory without any issues either...I could probably go further but I didn't see a need at this point. CPU and GPU temps were maxed at 72 and 78 respectively after looping 3dMark06 for 6 hours.
At stock, I got 7416 in 3dMark06
At 3.01Ghz, 675/1000 I got over 9200 in 3dMark06
On a different note, the bilingual keyboard annoyed me too much so I ordered a US replacement off eBay for $15 (no backlight as I don't need it).
