I'm also curious what they'll have to say.

Hey guys I just received my 3820tg in from pchome, got one question, at the bottom edge of the laptop below the touchpad where the silver meets the black plastic, are yours meeting flush all the way through or is it a little closer near the touch pad and it seperates just a little more when going towards the palmrest area? This isnt a big deal Im just wondering if its normal to have a little seperation or if mine has a problem.
-
My thread hijacked T_T by 30pages of post lol.
On another note, I recently contacted a retailer for acer here in British Columbia inquiring about the Acer 3820tg specifically with 5650 graphics, their reply was there was no guarantee to its launch here in canada and IF BIG IF, it does get launched it will likely be closer to christmas time. -

Thanks for the info. -
Whoa - did a fresh install of windows 7 after installing my intel ssd drive. Installed all the drivers and apps and she's rocking!! Only issue - i'm not sure if this is by design or maybe the order I installed the drivers: I have to turn bluetooth back on via fn+f3 (launch manager) after rebooting, anybody else experiencing this issue??
-
For those of you who are planning on doing a fresh install of 7 on your TG'S, I suggest you take a look at this site I came across after busting my chops trying to activate minel with no luck (invalid crap here and there using the key located on the back side). Took less than 3 minutes to complete an offliine activation. Hope this will save you guys the headache.

Anyone had success finding the exact stick? -
I can find the exact Samsung module (M471B5673FH0-CH9) in the US by searching Google with the exact part number, unless you're looking for the Nanya one.You might be able to find a seller who ships to Canada on eBay.

Anyone have any experience with YADI keyboard covers? The one for the 3820TG can be found at PChome here.
It wasn't available when I placed my order but it seems to be available now. I ordered the silicone one but it seems I'd prefer this one if I could change my order. If I place another order now the shipping would be more expensive than the actual product. If you've heard of CooSkin (one for the 3820TG can be found on eBay), I think it's supposed to be the same material (TPU or thermoplastic polyurethane) but I found some comparison pictures that seem to show that YADI's is much more transparent (CooSkin on the top, YADI on the bottom).
Overall, it looks pretty transparent on its own, and it might be a good way of protecting those little crevices in between the Acer keys.

I never understood the point of keyboard protectors. Seems to be along the same lines of leaving the plastic sheet on the back the laptop and never taking off any of the protective films off cell phones and TV remotes. The manufacturer makes an artistic product, covers it with plastic sheets so that it doesn't get damaged during transit, and the end user permanently leaves the unsightly thing on there? Hmm. Looks much worse than a scratched surface, IMO.

I wouldn't care for one usually. It's just that the Acer keyboard design seems to let crumbs and dust in quite easily with the spacing around and under the keys. A chiclet or standard keyboard design would make me a little less uneasy to be honest.
On the plus side, this keyboard design might actually be easier to clean out than other keyboards with smaller crevices. Just turn the keyboard upside down and empty it out. No compressed air duster required.
Then again, with these protectors costing almost as much as a new keyboard, perhaps it really isn't worth it. -
Those Yadi keyboard covers are great. A friend of mine who came back from Taiwan about a week ago got one for his Sony S series and the feel of it is really good.
It's thin, clear and has a really nice typing feel to it. Less tendency to grip your fingers too (that might be a good or bad thing).
If I had the option at the time I would have gotten the Yadi from PCHome but this silicone one is pretty good too. -
I have been adjusting my KB by adjusting the clip slots to fit perfectly, and then taped down the KB down with 2 pieces of double sided tape to take any excess flex I could get out of the KB. I finally have a great typing action. I just can't imagine keeping any real typing feel with that cover. It would probably be okay if you don't use the keyboard 5-6 hours a day.

The units that you are all getting from Taiwan, what carrier brings them into the US? FedEx/UPS or someone else? Then they are put into the hands of the post office for delivery? I'm trying to figure out what is different than the manner that the notebooks were being send by the German retailers? I don't really see the difference in the packing methods. Is it that the units are not flying on common carriers?

hmm, call me crazy, but the one I just bought last night in hong kong while on holiday here has no chinese characters on the keyboard... I wonder if thats a hong kong only thing. While windows was in chinese, 99% of the things I now see after they changed it is in english. In fact, only skype.com initially shows in chinese and I think thats a privacy china thing. I'm thinking the only thing I actually have to do to this computer when I get to Canada next week is find a proper plug end for back home. I know this is the north american thread, but since I live in Canada I thought I'd throw up this info too. Only 1 branch of "broadway" had this (in i-square mall - talk to Eason) everyone else said its not available and they had the lower 5470 gpu.
It cost, after they installed the 2 extra samsung ram, $1086 cdn. i5-450m. There was another canadian guy here I talked to looking for one of these in hong kong so maybe he'll see this post. -

Got to pass on the keyboard cover. Would make me look like a neat freak and ruin the beautiful chiclet keyboard.

So Synnex asks for an account number when you call... is it really that hard to answer a simple question about a product... jeez.

I ordered mine last Friday from PCHome (used my old paypal account, which worked still). I recieved an email along the lines of "we need to look at your order more carefully". Here is the quote:
-
try that. and please update on your status -
The order status page is at https://ecvip.pchome.com.tw/
Click "check order" near the top.
Ordered mine Friday too through paypal, it's shipping right now, I have the flight number and everything. -
do you have to have a confirmed paypal address before they ship?
-
I had a confirmed address but I shipped it to a different address. I think you do need a verified paypal account.

How cool would that be.

BTW, has anyone who has purchased a unit from overseas registered it? When I was talking to Acer US, they were indicating that it is easier to get service, etc., if the unit is registered. -
Mine shipped out earlier today around midnight Taiwan time. The plane with my package should arrive in LA around 9pm today (my laptop is going back in time!), then I'm guessing it's up to USPS to get it the rest of the way (from LA to San Diego).

I have a few questions about the Acer 3820TG with the i5-450M + ATI HD 5650 configuration from PCHome please:
1. Is the BIOS menu in chinese or english?
2. Is the Windows 7 sticker with the activation code in chinese or english?
3. How heavy is this laptop in lbs.?
4. How long is the battery life with the standard battery assuming NORMAL usage (MS office work, internet browsing, a few YouTube videos) BUT NO PC gaming?
5. Is it true that buying from PCHome means no Acer warranty if you live in the USA?
6. Does the laptop run hot (like a Toshiba R705)?
Thanks. -
^^^^^Have you researched this laptop at all? There are numerous answers to all your questions if you read the forum

It's amazing that your rep power is still only at 1.

Mine flew to Mississauga (near Toronto) via China Airlines and is under customs review right now. Hopefully it will turn out like biggyrock's laptop, duty and tax free.

Newbie here:
If this is the wrong thread, I apologize. Just wanted some opinions re 3820TG vs 3820T:
If I am not going to be using this laptop for gaming, but just want a light, small laptop for mobile use, do you think that I even need to be going to the 5470 GPU model, or would I be okay to save more cash and go for the base model? Main uses would be with databases, surfing, light office apps. What does the 5470 give you above and beyond the lower model if it isn't good enough for gaming?
Thanks,
Paul -

However, if it costs more than $50 or you don't want to shell out extra money, the 3820T is more than adequate for non-gaming mobile use. -
mine is in customs as well!
yey!
EMS ====== > China Flight (Commercial Airliner) ===> CanadaPost will Delivery it, if all goes well.
therefore with computer universe my suspicion is that they did not fill out or want to fill out the proper documents to send a device with a lithium class battery out.
and I have filled it out a few times , its not even much info. -

.
I was reading the outside of the packing box and it seems like Synex is the supplier for Staples.
If the surprise sale happens, I could get this 3820tg for $665 plus 12% tax. -

Why are you apologizing? You're just sharing another option for those in North America to pursue if they want.
