Ah, I hope that's not what people were referring to, I just found that too.
That's probably the cause of the discount at the normal Taiwan site, but I'll try again tonight/tomorrow morning to hopefully find a discount on the model on the global shopping site.
... unless someone who saw the discount can confirm that it was only the normal Taiwan site and not the global site.
EDIT: I've concluded that the 30900 model on the normal Taiwan site is likely a separate thing from the discount on the model on the global website since whisperer did note that there was the text "夜間特賣" which translates to "evening sale". I guess I'll try again tonight then!

Yeah I don't think the price on the 33,900 is too bad... it's an extra $90 but I'm pretty sure they upgrade it to 4gb ram... so it's actually only about $40 more expensive...and unopened(?).
However there is the i5-430 model though... that model is $125 cheaper but again comes with 2gb ram, so it's -$75 for the processor downgrade. -

There apparently was a press release from Acer Canada on August 4th regarding releasing TimelineX in Canada. There didn't seem to be any mention of 5650 GPU though
See here : http://www.businesswire.com/portal/...d=news_view&newsId=20100804005419&newsLang=en -
Acer 3820 TimelineX
This is on Acer's official canadian website, the 3820tg with 5650 might just be coming to canada =] -
The press release only mentions the 5470. I would not get my hopes up too high yet. It just memoralizes the reality on the ground in Canada.

Alright, as I explained to PeterDLai in private message, earlier this week I checked the global site: PChome¥þ²yÁʪ« - 3C À]º¶
and the TW site: PChome½u¤WÁʪ« - ¡½13¦T-3820TG Core i3/i5 8¤p®É+¿WÅã
They were the same -- having the same night time special. So when I posted on Wed. night here in Taipei, I only checked TW site since they were the same and I assumed they would be. The night time deal was still there in TW site last night (Thursday night), but it was posted later (around 7pm here) and it did not say night time deal -- it's the same 30900 and with no Porter pouch.
Now, there is currently a Computer Application Exhibit going on from Aug. 5th - Aug. 9th here in Taipei City, so a lot of retailers are giving out different deals. I think that's why the PCHome system start going weird because they are giving special promotions to compete with the retailers at the Exhibits.
As of right now, about 7:20pm in Taiwan, PCHome has just posted out a special on both TW and global site for the i5-450m, at $29900. It's supposed to start on Aug. 9th 8PM here in Taiwan (so 8AM EDT and 5AM PDT). Interestingly, you can add that to the cart right now! I don't know whether they allow you to check out, but if anyone of you is interested it's definitely not going to hurt if you just try to go through. Otherwise, well, you know the date and time, just wait for it.
Link to the 29900 deal:
Global: PChome¥þ²yÁʪ«¡m¡½ACER Aspire 3820TG-5452G50nss.(i5-450/1G ¿WÅã).³æ«~¡n
TW: PChome½u¤WÁʪ« - 24¤p®É±M°Ï¡m¡½ACER Aspire 3820TG-5452G50nss.(i5-450/1G ¿WÅã).³æ«~¡n
Good luck. -
=/ Hmm... I just saw an "exception" on my UPS tracking screen...
It says "power of attorney documentation is missing and is required for clearance". -
Today I have to register myself and jump out,
I bought Acer3820TG almost one month ago at staples at 670$.
What and why you guys are discussing here?. Some people post links to China, Taiwan, German ...etc. someone even flew to China to get one. All bull!
If you can buy it cheaper than 670$ anywhere, post your link! -
because its difference in china with a 5600 ati video card and diff processors
-
Staples one is 5470 and 430M processor. 5650 blows the 5470 out of the water. We're talking double the video ram and a minimum of double 3dmark06 score.

So I got all excited that my SSD came, but apparently there was a $80 duty levied on it?! !
I told my parents (who answered the door) to tell the drive to hang on to it, as I am not paying $300US for that drive. Any tips on what I need to do for FedEx to send it back, and for me to get a refund? -
I just got my Crucial delivered to Toronto via Fedex, I just had to pay about 30 bucks in taxes. -
-
-
-
Might have been $28, you should call Fedex and ask.
-
Hmm... It appears the delivery person had a super strong accent or something, because FedEx confirms it to being $27 in tax + a $10 handling fee = $37. Does that sound about in line with what you paid?
-
Trust me, first thing is, if it was available here, I would have just bought it here.
Second thing is, I'm going to China, but that was a plan that was set a long long time ago, way before this thing even came up on the tech radar. -

How do I order at PCHome? I got to the checkout, tried paypal but I get an error. The translation on the credit card payment option has some odd requests (Birth of the Republic, ID Number....).
How are all you people paying for this? I planned to order this morning but am having troubles now... Did a quick scan through the thread and seems like I am the only one with issues. US Citizen. Shipping to an address in New York, billing to an address in Vermont. Could that be the problem? I filled out a new paypal account but chose nationality as US. Maybe I should be choosing Taiwan? -
P.S. - did you use coupon stacking to to get the $800 price tag at Staples to drop to $670....just curious? -
#2: Did you recently open a paypal account? I think you need to do the whole verification thing with them before you're allowed to use it. Don't put nationality as Taiwan! Fill out the correct information. -
Can anybody read Chinese here? I just wanted to find out what this graphic is saying:
It shows up in a pop-up if you click on the 2GB gift in the 33900 model. It seems that the new 29900 special excludes the 2GB gift, but does end up being about $30 cheaper than the "evening sale" for me. -
Umm... I tried searching and could not turn up much.
Where did you guys find it on sale at Staples? -
I just ordered mine off the Staples website as its back in stock. For the amount of "gaming" i do i think the 5470 will be just fine. i used some coupon stacking too to get $60 off, pretty sweet deal i'd say!
-
Ghost117 I think you have to apply coupons. Also, someone worked there and got it for $699. -
Just got mine delivered here in Montreal,Canada after placing the 30900 overnight special with PChome on Aug 2nd. Exterior package was all busted up and damp from water damage even though it was sealed in a plastic bag BUT the goodies inside were safe and dry
It's a silver unit and came with an extra stick of 2gb ddr3 ram, usb mouse, orange plug outlet adapter, nice carrying pouch and cleaning cloth. -
-
Nothing - I just signed for the package and that's it!
-
Sweet! Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for being the first canuck to take the plunge!
-

My Crucial drive came into edmonton today.... I have to pay 20.00 in taxes which is normal. So I'll call and then they will ship it once its paid for. Why 80.00???
-
On another note....those of you who don't mind having the 5470 card with the i5-430..... A birdie told me that staples will be having a sale on Aug-11th. The laptop will be 100$ off at 699.99. For those of you that just bought it, make sure you go in and get your difference back.
Good to see PCHome working out for us in Canada.... but I can't justify the 350.00 price difference to get the 5650 as well as a slightly better i5-450. However I would love to have the bigger shift and enter keys that the pc home model comes with..... maybe i'll do a keyboard swap! -
-
But the 5470 is about 1/2 as powerful as the 5650 (3DMark06 3600 vs 7200)- so if you plan on playing any newer games only the 5650 will suffice. -
1050cad to Canada, I wonder if theres gonna be taxes added on, and biggy just got lucky >.<
-
-
yah.... Totally agreed. The 5650 is a great card. I used the 350 difference to purchase a 128gb crucial ssd..... Total cost of the system was 950.00 tax in.
Anyone know where to get the keyboard with the bigger shift and enter keys? -
biggyrocks, have you installed the extra 2GB of RAM yet? Does it match the existing RAM? You can use CPU-Z to check this. I am a bit doubtful that they matched the pre-installed RAM, which kind of pushes me towards buying the 29900 model without the gift 2GB RAM and getting a matching 2GB stick myself separately, which may or may not be the same as what kindan's unit came with (Samsung M471B5673FH0-CH9). -
-
-
I think Wikipedia explains it pretty well. -
I need advice!!! Should I pay the equivalent of $1012 cdn for the i5-450m with 5650 gpu, or or $942 cdn for the i5-430 model????
-
-
Bronsky -
Ouch, PayPal charges a currency conversion fee of 2.5% added to the actual exchange rate.
Just placed my order, $1040.03 USD for the i5-450M model (NT$29900 special) and the silicon keyboard cover. Seems like they have to do some verification of my credit card payment, so the waiting begins... -
