remember well at least in canada
even if you buy with a credit card, the extra warranty is not valid
because, it only covers items bought IN canada

Just had a conversation with synnex canada regarding the new model
4608201 AS3820TG-7945 W7HP EN/FN I5-460M 4G LX.PTB02.235
This particular model will be available october 8th this year and it will have same 5470 GPU as the I5-450, and in regards to the I5-450M with HD 5470 there are over 200 units in stock in the Vancouver area in particular, so i you guys interested, you can always find your local computer store to place an order.
New Info, apparently a synnex rep informed me that the 460M model will be exclusive to walmart...lol -
-
Just read that there's a teacher appreciation day discount of 10% available tomorrow!
Deal Staples Canada Teacher Appreciation Days - Aug 12,19 & 26 - Canada Flyers Coupons Deals
EDIT: I take it back. Just read the fine print... no computer or laptops eligible. Sorry. -
-
If Synnex already has its October, 2010 distrubution schedule set, I think the prospect of seeing the HD5650/3820TG before Q1 in the North America is extremely slim.

Is that a Canadian law or a Canadian bank credit card rule?
Having worked for several financial institutions, including credit card companies, I know that doesn't apply for US credit card companies.
If the US did implement a rule like that, it might solve our incredibly large trade deficit with countries like China.
We've been preaching "Buy American in America" for years, with little effect.

Mine cleared customs in Los Angeles around 1am today (PST).
Hopefully it's already on its way down!
Glad to hear more people are taking the plunge with us. bankergolfer, when you get yours, please let me know how you like the YADI keyboard protector. Regardless of all the people in this thread who don't care/see the need for it, I'm still considering it, haha.
P.S. I paid via credit card through PayPal and this is what shows up on my credit card statement (Chase Freedom):
"PAYPAL *WANGLUJIATI(Services and Merchandise)" -
So are the i5-430M, 450M, 460M just tweaks to the clock rate just to speed up the chips incrementally?
Are there any substantial improvements to the 460M?
-
WalMart makes sense. They maximize their exposure to consumers selling their wares in a store like WalMart.

Regardless of where the item is purchased the original manufacturer's warranty must be valid in Canada.
i was a bit off on my previous statement, but reality is, if it doesn't have a valid canadian warranty, no coverage. -

@Karma_Police: thanks for the steps on buying from PCHome...and a big thanks to you for the link and Bronsky for the step-by-step conversion info. Now time will tell if I have the guts to try this
-Gary -
Yes, that's the name on my credit card bill. However, it looks like it still won't get us extra warranty protection.
Thank you for confirming this. I knew instinctively the 450M was the one to get, despite everyone else writing it was just a simple incremental clock speed improvement.
Sounds like the next step up from the 450M is either the 520M or 540M, right?
That sounds right. I suppose using a credit card for extra warranty protection is a no-go after all.
Don't forget to thank Nemein. He's the one who alerted us to the best deal running to date at PCHome for the Acer 3820TG.
-
The synnex website indicates a 450M, while staples is actually selling a 430M any explaination?

Here is another link with more details. -
If true, then good looking out for us by PeterDLai.
And bad looking out for us by Lastdon.

Quick question, do you guys need to manually start bluetooth via fn+f3 after powering up. I noticed that blueooth will remain on when you restart but not power down and the power up...wondering if this normal(tried the registry mode where you set the "bluetooth always on" to "1" to no avail.
-
did updates on windows update
since i got the laptop
restarted it a few times and it's still genuine. -
the screen is just as ty as the one at staples with the grainy effect and pixels visible on initial boot.
will probably ebay this.
I guess it was worth a shot to Update to english PeterDlai, cause my copy is working great
Looking out , which i am, for people that are willing to try
just like mydigitallife stated
" it may cause "
MAY is not defininate .
btw the screens on the acer are so horrible, u can even see the pixels that make up the screen in some of the pictures taken by a cell phone. -
I finally got mine today. Powered it on to make sure things looked ok, then immediately installed my Crucial SSD, and pulled out the 2GB samsung RAM and stuck in 2 x 2GB of some other DDR3 RAM I had kicking around.
It totally sucks that I jumped the gun and ended up with 2gb less ram and paid like $250CDN more than everyone else, but i'm kinda glad I got it either way.
Tomorrow, I install my fresh copy of Win7 Pro @ the office -
Just as ty? What is "ty"?
You wrote in an earlier post that you used to own the 3820TG. How was that laptop's screen vs. your 2nd 3280TG?
Don't feel bad. At least you still have your HP Envy 15 to play with.
-
-
LOL! Thanks.
What I don't get is he's already seen a couple of 3820TGs. He never complained about the screen quality before.
-
if you actually followed any of the discussions on these forums, you would know what i am talking about..
the Screen is s h i t t y, period.
i went through 2 3820tg in Canada with the 5470, and now the one from pc home, they all had the auo screen as stated in the other threads.
Out of the box the screen is grainey, just like how some matte screens look .
If you look at the pictures you can tell there is some pixels visible, they don't look uniform
And yes I do have the hp 15 envy to play with.. the screen on that blow this out of the water.
Edit: if you need to follow a quick search
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...inex-4820tg-owners-lounge-10.html#post6486644
was posted in the 4820tg thread comparing the screens.
and also in the 3820tg thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6486655-post1920.html
those do look like complaints to me. -
Are you the only one's been having this experience? Looking back at the time you posted those pics, I didn't see anyone else indicate they had the same screen problem.
I believe you. Just feel bad if you're the only one getting those ty screens. What is that, 3 in a row you've gotten. That's pretty horrible bad luck.
-
in the 4820tg thread their are others getting the same screens
some are more sensitive to the graininess then others
in some pics that bronsky posted u can notice it's not a clearn smooth image
its just the quality of these screens -
-
Bronsky,
I thought you loved your 3820TG screen? How grainy are your screens?
-
Bronsky -
Looks like the special that Nemein found for us is over already!
My thanks again to Nemein for pointing it out. I'm just glad I acted on it immediately when I did.
Price for a 3820TG i5-450 with only 2 GB RAM is back up to 33,900. No free 2 GB stick of RAM.
Those retailers in Taiwan mean business with it comes to specials. In a blink of an eye, the sale is over.
-
That's what I thought. Lastdon said he saw graininess in your screen too.
Maybe he's seeing things....
-
Yes, that FX fee charged by PayPal is a ripoff. I used to be a FX derivatives trader & marketmaker and I never gouged institutional investors or corporate clients like this.
I paid $1060 USD for the i5-450 model that included the 2 GB stick of RAM and the other goodies (NT$30900 special). Also purchased that Yadi transparent keyboard protector too, since it looked so nice!
-
I never understood the need either until I experienced colleagues "oohing" and "aaahhhing" over my tech toys while eating biscuits that crumble to millions of pieces over everything.
-
What were the "usual gifts"? You mean an external dvd drive, carrying case, and whatnot? -
2 GB stick of RAM (laptop only comes with 2 GB to start with)
power plug converter
computer storage bag
It's better than nothing.

Hi All,
Long time lurker of this thread and the 3820tg hacks thread, but I finally have a reason to post. I got in on the PCHome deal thanks to SkyShade (rep coming btw). It came today, no problems to report.
I'm looking to buy the ZeroShock III case, but have a stupid sizing question. The notebook's specs are 324mm x 235mm, which converts to 12.76" x 9.25". A Zeroshock 13.3" case fits 12.4"x9.3". Now the obvious answer is to get the 14" case, but we are talking about a 1/3rd of an inch for one dimension. Anyone with experience know if the 13.3" Zeroshock sleeve will fit the 3820TG? I'd rather have the tightest fit possible so it doesn't slide around. TIA! -
Is your screen grainy like lastdon's?
-
-
@bankergolfer - I would say no, if i put my face up close to the screen i can see individual pixels, but I would say that's pretty normal. Definitely no lines like in the pics.
@MyOnlySt4r - good point. Searching ebay I can see people selling their 13.3" Zeroshock specifically for a Sony Vaio Y, Dell Vostro 1310, Toshiba Portege M700, etc. Although...this is ebay, no telling if any of the info is accurate. The Zeroshock site doesn't list any specific models, just sizes. I've read some people here having them so I'm hoping one will chime in to confirm if the 13.3" fits.
