So, today I put my Acer 3820TG on "Hibernation" - then when I turned it back on, display did not turn on, so I restarted the computer. Nothing.
So, I tested it with external monitor and the laptop itself works; however, the laptop's display "cannot be displayed", it just shows black screen, for some awkward reason.
Any ideas what happened and what I could do?
Thanks!
Edit: It blinks for a while (but is still dark) when i change GPU.
Please help me! :I

So it works fine with an external monitor but not with LCD screen, right?
If that's the case it's either LCD itself or LCD cable/ribbon that has worn out. -
Hibernation is really funky on the 3820TG. I never let my unit go into hibernation. I will let it sleep.
The timing of the display failure could be coincidence along with the hibernation, but I would rule out any connection before I considered troubleshooting the display. Take the battery out and unplug it for 5 minutes and see if that helps. -
Pretty annoying....I guess it works 50% of the time. -
Can't help on the display issue.
But regarding hibernation - I've never had a problem with mine hibernating.
In fact, I rarely, if ever shut down any more and only hibernate. If there aren't any updates to restart for, then my uptime is usually a dozen or so days.
The only issues I've had are if you're hibernating whilst it's in "power saving" mode (i.e. not charging off mains) and then turn it back on whilst it's plugged in.
I think that's more an AMD driver issue though. -
Resurrecting the thread. It appears that when I change the GPU (using the external monitor), the laptop's screen blinks and becomes completely black, and then becomes again veryvery dim.
So, does this mean that the backlight/inverter is broken? Would I need to buy a whole new LCD-screen, or would just buying new backlight/inverter work, or would I need to buy all of them? -
Sorry, new bump.
So, what should I bu in order to repair it? -
It seems the problem is that the compute,r in the waking process, doesn't recognise if the lid was open or closed - there for doesn't turn on the screen properly. -
Could someone give me the final advice on what to do?
-
Sounds like a similar problem I have had. I just turn it off and turn it back on again... =\
-
The problem is completely different, it is a hardware problem, as I have described during my last post. So nope, does not work.
Either the backlight or the invertor, but not sure whch + are they supplied with a new LCD screen? -
Would buying one of these solve my problem:
NEW A+ 13.3 Laptop LCD Screen LED Display Panel WXGA for ACER Aspire 3820TG-3022 | eBay
NEW LAPTOP SCREEN ACER ASPIRE TIMELINEX 3820TG-374G50NKS 13.3" LED | eBay
Do I need to buy inverter separately? -
If I remember correctly there is no inverter on LED based LCDs.
Both displays you linked to should work. -
Hello once again,
I've started disassembling the laptop, removed keyboard, LAN cables, speakers, touchpad cable etc; the instructions say http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2010/ServiceGuides/SG_Aspire_3820T_3820TG_04282010.pdf that before I move to LCD-screen, I would have to remove harddrive module, 3G module, Wlan module etc.
However, I saw a video ( Laptop screen replacement, LCD screen replacement guide [ACER Aspire 5534] - YouTube)
where those steps are unnecessary.
So, which one should I follow? -
Acer service guide is a full disassembly guide so it's not strictly necessary to follow all their steps if you're planning just an upgrade.
-
One more message, I guess then.
So, I disassembled my laptop, and apparently the green (connector?) part of the LCD Module is broken; the green part's number is:
B133XWO1 V.O CTRL BD.
13B13-CO2
So, those 2 screens I posted earlier are not compatible.
What about this one, I guess this is what I would need:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
So, should I buy this then?
Thanks! -
Any of the screens you posted should be compatible. There isn't just one particular type of screen that will work. If you look at the first link they say that they send you any brand of screen (randomly it is assumed). In your case you have an AU Optronics screen but there is no reason why you can't use a Philips or LG or whatever screen.
-
How did you find a particular cable/connector that was broken? You have any picture of it? I have dissambled my computer now so I am looking at the screen. -
I just received the laptop back from the repair, here is what happened.
I disassembled the laptop (do NOT do that!), until I got my whole LCD module out - I took it to the store, whee they said that the "green part is broken", and that I need to replace the whole screen and that the new screen + repair would cost around 250€.
But, I ordered new LCD screen myself and took it with me to the store where it was repaired.
BUT
Apparently mine new screen is a bit less quality - whenever I type or move my laptop, my screen blinks slightly. However, it's quite a minor problem.
So, I did not myself find that the screen was broken, but I asked at the store.
What should you? I would take it to the (proper) repair, ask for price, think which kind of screen you need, and think if you are able to change the screen yourself.
Ask more if you need help!
P.S: Also, big thanks to the people that posted here and helped me. -

Hi,
Seems like i'm having a similar problem as you with my 3820TG. The screen just suddenly stopped working. Although, when i look close i can see that the screen is working but it's really dark and dimmed down. I guess it's the backlight or the inverter?
Was it necessary for you to change the whole screen? Do you know if the inverter comes with a screen or is it separate? -
-
The screen doesn't include an inverter or it's not the inverter that's broken? -
There are no inverters on LED-backlit screens.

will solve my problem? -
Hi,
I talked to acer's support and they told me that it might be a problem with the bios. However, when i try to update the new bios i just keep getting error-messages. Do you think my problem is a software or a hardware issue?
Thank you -
I don't see how it could be BIOS-related to be honest.
