I have a really big problem. I think my turbo boost is disabled. My core speed is only reaching 2.4ghz and it cant climb up to Turbo Boost 3.0ghz. When I try to install the Turbo Boost Monitor it say's that my Laptop doesn't support Turbo Boost but i have a core i5-2430m. I searched google and found out that I can enable/disable turbo boost in the BIOS but for some reason my bios {which is a PHOENIX] has missing options where I can tweak the Frequency/Voltage from which the Turbo Boost option is located. I really need to solve this, I need that extra 600hz :(

3GHz will only appear in those applications that uses only one core (thread). In multithreaded applications you can get 2.4GHz-2.7GHz. (depends on heat in case of acers)

I tried using prime95 to stress test the cores but I dont know how to test only 1 core. This phoenix bios is really pissing me off, its missing options where you can tweak the speed step

There were no such options on notebooks and there won't be regardless of BIOS- Phoenix or otherwise.
You can set max number of threads in Prime's options.

Got it. My processor speed is now peaking @ 2.9ghz. But for some reason I cant install the Turbo Boost Monitor from intel. It says that my processor is not supported

That's OK. There was something wrong with Turbo Boost Monitor- it showed wrong values in some cases and I think Intel gave up on it.
It's possible that second gen Core ix are not even supported.

Anyway- your CPU works fine. Max TurboBoost speed depends on how many cores are under load and temperature. So in your case CPU took a half step back from 3GHz to 2.9GHz because you've exceeded the temperature Intel was perfectly safe.

It doesn't mean your CPU is overheating though- Intel is a bit conservative with it- they want some headroom. All in all everything works fine.

So thats why I can't install the damn thing. I was a bit confused because I did have an i5 that does supported Turbo Boost. Anyway thanks for the help. It eased my mind knowing what I bought HAD a Turbo Boost and It's really great for gaming with an 8g RAM. This forum is really helpful. :D
