ok altalst I got a bonus from my employer and this time am sure to get my first notebook.

I am confused, a bit, which one should I go for

The processor is Su3500, RAM 2GB, 320 GB HDD for both 3810 and 4810.
    3810 weighs 1.6 kg while 4810 is 1.9 kg

Could you please give me some idea by giving some pointing pros and cons of each of the option.

I like a light notebook suits my light body, but 300gm or a DVD RW drive the better

Well if you need an optical drive the answer is painfully obvious.

That part is fine...I am willing to get an external DVD RW USB drive

Is there any significant advantage the 3810 offer over 4810 for a regular traveler, I mean the 300 gms and the increased dimension of 4810, is it that noticeable. How I think is if it does not then with 4810, the optical drive is free ;)

Guys could you please help out, I am looking forward to September 30 to buy the machine.

the 4810t is bigger than the 3810t, but for a 14 inch laptop with an optical drive, its one of the smallest and lightest on the market.

Personally, I found the 4810 a little heavier than I expected; from what i remember, it wasn't something I could lift easily with one hand. Dimension-wise, there isn't very much difference between the 4810 and 3810. I think the 4810 is a little more than a centimeter longer and wider than the 3810.
Also, the click buttons for the touchpad on the 3810 are placed closer to the edge of the laptop - I found the 3810 to be more comfortable to use than the 4810.
The lack of an optical drive isn't a big deal for me, whenever I'm out and about the university, I have so far never needed (or wanted, for that matter) to use the optical drive
If possible, try to test out both machines, I think that the 4810 is a better choice, because of the "free optical drive" like you said :)

If you dont need the optical drive at all, go for 3810t.

Since 3810t and 4810t is closely matched in dimension, i went for 4810t because optical drives comes handy sometimes because i have a lot of movies stored in DVDs.

Since 4810 is cheaper in my place, I went for it because i dont mind the extra 300gm and having an optical drive is a bonus, if I were to get 3810t, then I will skip that straight and get 1810T because specs are almost the same.

I must say that the 13.3" size and 14" are really confusing especially in the case of timeline series. I would better think Acer could have brought a <13" and 14". Atleast that could have helped me to take a desicion quicker ;)

Thanks a lot for all your responses. Please contribute if you have any more pros and cons between the models
