Hi.
Hopefully someone can help me out.
I have the above reference laptop and need to know the mAh draw capacity of the USB port.
I have a device that draws 530mAh and would like to know if I can attach that device to my laptop.
I know most laptop usb ports have a 500mAh mAh draw capacity, but I was told by an Acer chat rep that the capacity is 800mAh on the 4810T-8480, but that I should verify that with a Technician locally ???????![]()
So that is why I am here![]()
Thanks for any assistance you can offer me.

Hi,
anything above 500mA is beyond the specs. If Acer designed the laptop to handle more, then they should have written that in the documentation. So don't trust these words from a service rep (who seems to be wildly guessing also)
I guess, this 530mA devicewon't fry your laptop, but if you want to play safe, then use an external hub with own power supply. Or return that device for being broken by design (not spec compliant).

I think 500ma is the minimum requirement , but some usb ports can provide quite a bit more, though it`s best to use a usb splitter cable to spread the load over two usb ports to be safe on anything that uses more than 500ma.

An USB "Y"-cable is not specs compliant either. You short the power connectors of two USB ports *shrug* with these.
Plus an USB port gives only 100mA if there is no device request.
The best idea is to just not buy stuff that is not spec compliant. The only language, vendors and manufacturers understand.

If a port blows and your still in warranty, LIE

Thank you all very much for your replies. I very much appreciate your assistance.
This is the current news (no pun intended)
The device has a 620mAh current draw. The device worked for 30 minutes, and then failed. I thought it was a device issue, as the device did not work in a usb wall charger port either, or any of my other acer usb ports.
A week later, I plugged in a new External Hard Drive into the usb port I was using for the 620mAh device. The External HD lit up, but my acer did not recognize it as being plugged into the usb port.
I plugged the External HD into my other 2 usb ports and it worked fine.
I tried a Bluetooth dongle and a usb 8gb memory stick into the 'bad' port, and both worked. An hour later, the usb port failed completely.
It looks as though the 620mAh device blew my usb port.
I assume the port was still putting out some power in order to operate the BT dongle and the usb memory stick, but didn't have enough power output to operate the External HD. -
Your external HDD - is this a 2.5" drive that has no own PSU? These devices are not specs compliant either. A 2.5" HDD needs ~1000 mA during spin-up, which twice the current allowed by the specs.
