Windows does not need an additional driver other than the one that is installed with Windows. I would update to the latest version of Nero.. See if there are updates for your ide drivers and/or firmware. Also try some different discs. Quality varies greatly.

I'm checking that same Acer for a friend and with Nero 6.6.0.6 had no problems burning DVDs - this was using the "Copy Entire Disc" method.

BTW, that's one heck of a machine! :D

Sometimes the media is the problem. What brand are you using?

Verbatim is the worst possible, so if you are using that, it's most likely the problem cause.

Memorex and Sony are some of the best. ;)

Definitely try a different brand of media, and see if you can burn then. If you can't, then I would suggest giving Acer a call.

You cannot tell how good the media is by the brand. Most media is made by other companies with the brand name slapped on. Taiyo Yuden and Mitsubishi Chemical, which Verbatims usually are, are some of the best one can buy. You can use DVD Identifier to find out who makes the discs using the Manufacturer ID Code(MID). Look them up on VideoHelp.com to see what experiences others have had with them.

Well, I'd disagree there - there are certain brands of media that aren't as compatible as others. True, most are just made by another company and there's a name slapped onto them, but the fact is, that some are made by different companies.

I read a recent review of media and, using 12 different DVD burners, verbatim was the least compatible. Memorex was on top.

Well I really can't speak to an article you read. Go over to VideoHelp.com type in Memorex and Verbatim, see who come out looking better. The most important thing is the MID code. That will tell you who makes the discs. There are quality manufacturers like Taiyo Yuden and Mitsubishi Chemical, and crap ones like Princo and CMC Mag. I know Memorex has used both.

    Hi again!
I found the problem now. It's in the media type. I tried samsung pleomax 4.7gb dvd. Nero burned it successfully. but the dvd didn't get read by windows. I recently flashed my drive(Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-833S) with VRS3 firmware. Now windows isn't even detecting most of the dvds. What's the problem now?

Could this be result of updating the firmware(It shouldn't be right?)

    Some help me here...
