    Hello,

About 10 seconds after taking the notebook off of standby, it begins this loud, annoying whirring noise, which lasts until you shut it down or put it back on standby. When the notebook is working hard, there is also a noise that sounds a lot like a fan, which stops when the hard work is over, but the original noise continues. It seems like it has gotten louder over time and is annoying me so much I'm on the brink of buying a new notebook, but I wanted to check here first if there is anything I can do.

Is the whirring noise a fan? Is it a low-power fan that runs the whole time? Is there something I can do to disable that fan or have it run less often, or only have the high-speed fan run when necessary? Would I need special software for this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Its most likely to be the fan. After a peroid of time, the bearings in the fan will become defective and will eventually fail, and cause the fan to make a grinding noise. if you are under warranty, you can ask for Acer to replace the fan. If the notebook isn't under warranty, then you may be able to replace the fan yourself, but you will need to find a sutible replacement first.
