Hi all, I need your expertise as follows:
I own an Acer Aspire 3100 series and recently acquired an Acer Aspire 5100 series with a broken screen case damage, the question I have, is it possible to simply exchange the CPUs from the 5100 mother board to the 3100 motherboard? OR is it possible to simply exchange the motherboards over and will they fit with no adjustments.
I know Im a newb![]()

The CPU is socketed, so you can swap it or whatever....
Motherboards should be swappable as well, as the 3100 and the 5100 belong to the same family.

I know the CPU in the 3100 is a Sempron, but out of curiousity what CPU do you have in the 5100, is it the Turion MK36? or the Turion TL50?

The 5100 can use either of them (MK single core turions or TL dual core turions), some even come with the TK dual core mobile athlons.
The 3100 is essentially the 5100 but with a sempron instead of a turion. -
Are the TK and the TL use the same mobo? same bios?
-
anytime you upgrade a CPU it is wise to upgrade your bios to the latest version available for your motherboard..
as for upgrading AMD cpus, i'm clueless.... i try to stick to INTEL since they dominate the market in CPUs sold... -
I see your point.

Yup...The 3100 and 5100 are so close they actually use the same ATI/AMD mainboard as well as bios. The current bios version is 3.13 available from the acer euro ftp.
Acer 5100 CPU help required - Please :)
